Motor fault

My car overreffed and cut out in the high revs. The car doesnt want to start but the motor is loose.I thought it was the turbo but no. The turbo is in perfect condition aswellas the intercooller, intake, head and injectors. When i took the head off there was some oil on the pistons . What could the fault be that it wont start ?

If you miss shifted and sent the motor above 7400 rpms you probably have bent valves. Also, this is a forum for E46s, which didn't come with turbos from factory.

Is it a diesel or did you turbo it?
Edit: it's a diesel.

The 2001 e46 320d had an M47TUD20 turbo diesel 2.0 engine. Famous for sucking in the swirl flap screw into and destroying the engine. I think there were also 4 cylinder turbo gas engines available in the Euro market.

The M47TU2D20 diesel engine in the e9x is a variant of the old e46 turbo diesel.
