Issue with electric top please help!

Hi guys so I have an issue with 2005 330 ci vert. Now today morning when I was closing the top it closed 98 percent then at the end i heard a whirring sound and it wasnít locking shut. Then I pressed the close button and shut it with my hand. Now itís closed.

Any idea what it can be and what repair bill I am looking at.

read this

If you heard a whirring sound I'd be concerned the latches were broken. Hopefully it is just a wire.

Hey thanks for the link. So the update is that the top now doesnt lift off much anymore .. I tried opening it and it just lifted off the top maybe 5 inches and stopped moving. I can hear the whirring of the pump tho and maybe a faint clicking noise too. When I tried to close it, too went down but didn;t latch shut. Then I asked a buddy to press down on it while I pressed the close button. It clicked shut but the open button is blinking read..

Can anyone advise what it could be and approx repair bill? Assuming it could be the wires, latch or the pump?

Im thinking maybe its pump as why wouldnt the top raise fully if the pump was ok ..

Any feedback would be much appreciated as im thinking to sell the car soon as sick of all the issues that keep coming up tho I love the car sigh .. but looks like time to move on

Pump is $500 to refurbish, plus an hour to uninstall/reinstall.
Wires can be spliced and diagnosed in 1-2 hrs.
Latches are 2-3 hrs to replace, and $3-400 each.

If you can DIY the latches and wires are only a few dollars in materials. The pump is going to cost you no matter what, yet from your symptoms I doubt it's the pump. Investigate the wires and latch first.

Fix it, or sell it cheap. I'm guessing a broken wire. The 240M looks good if you have the money

Hey guys so the pump seems to be operational as making sounds .. the top lifts up a little the stops and closing it struggles but if I pull down while pressing the close button in latches shut. The open roof button flashes red tho always.. I'm guessing the shop can read the code and find the error? Would I need to take it to bmw or my usual Indy bmw mechanic is ok? 800 dolllars for two latches is ridiculous tho :/

Hey all so the mechanic said these parts needed:

1- Converter Shock 80 $
2- Converter Front Motor assy 450$
3- Consumables 20$

Labour charges $450

Isnt this too much??

Definitely on the high side, shop around or DIY.

It could be done cheaper, but if they stand behind their work, and it fixes your problem, and you can afford it, I'd get out my check book

Before taking it in for a repair, I would check the wires running along the lining on the left hand side of the car.

It is a common place for them to break, and the repair bill is nothing if you just need to splice in some new wire.

My total repair bill came to £1 to buy some electrical tape.
