iPod install...ICE Link

Just got my ICE link installed today....I love it! I can use the track up and down feature either on my steering wheel or HU. When I change modes, i.e. from changer(iPod) to radio, single cd, or the phone(cpt8000), the iPod powers down and restarts whenever I switch back to changer mode. I used a center console mount from proclip, and a universial cell phone cradle from Radio Shack that swivels in all directions. The sound quality is excellent (i have the volume on the iPod set to about 3/4's).

Is it possible to do something like this with other mp3 players such as the Creative Nomad Zen?

I have a way that is much cheaper.. and will work with any MP3 player.

I have the Business CD head unity in my 00 323CI. It does not have a CD changer control or aux button. So I came up wit this.

Buy an FM modulator (45.00). It is not the ****ty belkin unit that actually broadcasts.. this one plugs directly into the antenna port on the back of the head unit. You will need 2 antenna adaptors to go from standard to BMW and vice versa. (7.00 each)

It has RCA inputs, so you will need a headphone to RCA converter wire.. (5.00). you can plug it into any portable music player.

All you basically have to do is run power to the unit and plug the antenna in. I used the cigarette lighter for power. Just jumped off of the terminals on the bottom of it.

It took a while to figure out where the heck to keep the unit.. but I eventually put it under/behind the ash tray. It works perfect.

The only thing I DONT like is there is nowhere to put the Ipod. You can put it in the cupholder..but cmon... that sucks. And a cellphone holder just isnt going in my car. LOL. Ill come up with somthing.

My Ride: an m3...eventually
it would be best if you could put it in some sort of holder or brackets on the side of the shifter column thingie, right next to your leg. it would have to be open at the top so you could lift it out to operate it.

Great Pics Lonnie_20

I am looking at this too. I have a 2004 M3 w/NAV and I think there are still some issues. I also have the very first IPod (5Gig).

I am still trying to talk myself into upgrading.

Re: Great Pics Lonnie_20

sweet ride!!! i love how the led's look...i dont think there would be an issue with the nav....do you already have a changer installed? if you do, you would have to lose it in order to use the ice link...if you dont want to sacrifice your changer...you could simply add an aux input to your head unit, but you would not have the use of the steering wheel controls while using the iPod....and BTW... UPGRADE!

You're absolutely right about the upgrade. I did not get the HK system so I am an audio virgin. I had planned on the Alpine MP3 changer as all my music is on my MAC in Itunes. Man I have no idea what I am doing. I have been out of it for 5 years and car audio has left me in the dust.

Bigger Problem... My toy budget is somewhat restricted this month. New M3-Rasp-X-GSP Pedals-Hoen HID-Painted Reflectors-PIAA HID. Etc.

I think my wife is getting suspicious LOL

No $$$ left

The PIAA's are replacing the second headlight. With the Bi-Xenon both the normal and the high beam are in the one projector. The second headlight is simply to flash the person in front of you to get out of your way. I put the PIAA in that one and the Hoen HID's in the fogs.

I also replaced the amber turn indicator with the Stealth bulb so with my painted reflectors the entire front end is looking really slick.

I have some pics on the M3Forum but I'll post some better ones here as soon as it stops raining.

Looks sweet as hell but thats freaking expensive!!!! 200$.... Makes me sad because I am so on a budget this year. Also, next time you want a firewire cable, go to newegg.com and get it for 2.99
