HUDs (Heads Up Displays)

Anyone seen/heard/is working on any mods to do Heads-Up displays? GM is starting to put them into cars, the '02 Vette has a semi-decent one.

I'm thinking of going a step further then they did and putting in a computer capable of doing things like playing MP3s, doing GPS, plus all the spiffy things (tm) (r) (c) that can be obtained from the on-board engine computer, essentially, trying to mimic what military jets do - the HUD information set changes depending on what weapons/radar mode the pilot chose, except this would be for a car.

For phase II of the project, I'd probably try to tie this in with a cell, so that if you're dialing by touch, you can see the # you are punching up without having to take your eyes off the road.

If I am thinking of proverbially re-inventing the wheel, please let me know where to look for the original wheel.
