That was a great video definately worth the wait. That was just a standard M3 correct, not CSL. The RS certainly is a fast car and those guys knew the track well. Without traffic and those accidencts I'm sure the could run under 8 30.

It was nice seeing them navigate through the traffic. They knew the track VERY well. The Porche was pulling on the M3 in the straights, but it looks like the M3 was doing alittle better with the twisties. I saw them blow by a viper, but was that a volvo wagon with I bike rack I saw?

I didn't notice the Porsche gaining that much in the straights. The Porsche lost him at one point, but then the M3 caught back up. Also there seemed to be a couple points at which I think the M3 could have overtaken, but just didn't try. That leads me to believe that they were racing for sport more than to see who could actually win. Besides, it would be a boring video if the Porsche wasn't in front. Good stuff though.

There's a ton of cars like that at the ring, you can see busses in some other videos.

where is that track and how long is it?

A couple observations after watching the whole lap...

I'm guessing the 'dinging' inside the M3 was the chain on the pin of the fire extinguisher? It's about the only thing I could think that sounded like.

I was surprised to see the bikes, and so much traffic on that track - something that would never be allowed in the US... I think...

I was sure that when they passed under the starting scaffold that a giant "BONUS LAP" was gonna flash on my screen!

My Ride: E46 M3
Hi!

It was me driving and I'm new to this board.
I'd like to clearify a few things.
The M3 was 1460 cerb weight at that time, it was above 40 degrees celsius outside, the 964 RS is a bit tuned and both of us were driving on R Compunds.

The guy driving the 964 RS is a friend of mine and I was not racing him, just followed him to make a nice video. If I had been racing him, I would have overtaken pretty early, that's how much faster I am in the M3. Most of the time behind him on the straights I don't have full throttle but out of some corners his Porsche really pulls well.
Part the visual effect is that he goes on the throttle a bit earlier and that creates the rubber band effect. If I was really raicng him I would have been on his bumper all the the time until I would have overtaken.

My car is (or more correct was) a tuned standard M3 the track was Nürburgring Nordschleife. Now the car has been re-built to a race-car.
See for more info: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=139400

Cheers,
/Johan

nice driving man,.... i was watching the video and I wish we had roads like that in Canada where I could push 3.0 to the limits, but there is none unless you want to get a speeding ticket and get a car towed =/
