Nitrous as an option for E46?

Seeing lots of superchargers and maybe a turbo... Anybody tried Nitrous for their E46 330i? Any luck not blowing up the engine? Any good kits developed?

It's a complete mistake for an inordinate amount of reasons. You can eat a chicken wing whole and you might be full, but that doesnt mean its not gonna hurt on the way out. Sorry for the shtty analogy.

Misconceptions, such as the one you just regurgitated? Moron.

Hmmm i was under the impression if it wasn't abused you'd be fine with it. I was looking to do a small set up in my car with possibly 2-3 1lb bottles basically for show but i'd use it on occasion. I've also heard it's less of an issue on a forced induction vehicle. Any comments?

I was under the impression that Nitrous helped FI more by it's cooling nature. Increase air density and oxygen. Could be wrong though.

nitrous is safe for anycar if used correctly. most people over do it and cause a lean condition which can blow your engine up.

I would say a 50shot is not too much even for 323/325.

if I remember correctly Zex has a kit that replaces your airfilter. the nozzles are behind the airfilter element? I dont' remember exactly.

here is a pic of it:

Zex is crap. NX is the way to go. A normal wet kit has been done on the 330 up to 75shot. I'm sure 100shot is good too. Only problem I see is our manifolds are so twisted and bent that the fuel would never get there properly. I did direct port on mine so Ill never have that problem or a lean condition. I can run 40-500shot, like Ill ever need it. I don't plan on going above 100 without a controller though.

The problem is, the cost of a properly set up Nitrous kit, with direct port and a controller, will be close to the cost of a SC....which doesn't make Nitrous a very attractive option IMHO.

on a supercharged 3er would there have to be any ecu reprograming if nitrous was added?

I'm interested too. I e-mailed Zex twice, askinig if they were developing a 330i kit and they haven't had the courtesy to reply. Their prices looked good. But someone posted that a proper setup would cost the same as a supercharger - that's a surprise. I guess the $1,000 price I've seen shoots dry nitrous into the intake after the throttle body, and the expensive install puts injectors at the cylinder locations?

Assuming you use the correct nitours and/or fuel jets, then you are fine. EGT gagues or W/B are nice to have to ensure you are not running under a lean condition.

Anytime nitorus is mixed with boost, boost should be turned down. It would also be great to have a seperate map for it as well.

Dry kits just injects the nitrous through the intake tubing and bumps up the stock fuel pressure.

Wet kits DPI & single nozzle. The single nozzles like the dry kits mounts in the intake tubing and sprays nitrous and fuel (rather then bumping up the fuel pressure). DPI has individual nozzles that sprays fuel and nitrous into each intake manifold runner (or plenum).

NX and NOS both make good kits. NOS has been knowing to have their soleniods stick. People complain about popping motors because oif them sticking. If the kit was properly installed with a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch (FPSS), then these problems would be non existent.
