I installed an amp and sub and now the FM reception has degraded.
I may try running the power wire a different way, but that is the only idea i have. Does anyone else have a solution that has experienced this?I assume its because of the interference from the amp. Its mounted below the rear deck. Thanks for the help |

If you still have the factory head unit, maybe the antenna wire was disconnected either in the back or at the radio during installation? If you have no AM, then this may be the case.

whoever did the install must have either disconnected or loosely connected the antenna in the rear. if you still have your stock head unit and stock antenna, an amp and sub should not interfere with reception whatsoever.

The reason why I asked about AM, is that if you don't have any AM at all, then it is most likely an antenna problem. If you do have AM, then it is probably a tuner problem.

I did the install my self and only worked in the trunk. If I hit anything it would be in the trunk, Is there an antenna wire in the trunk that I may have hit???

no my AM is not that good nor has it ever been good, but the FM was very strong. Now after the install and I only worked in the trunk the FM is now weaker, I still get the stations most of them but they are have static in them now. Could I have hit something working in the trunk?????

I did take out the factory amp and cut the harness off, that may have done something but I am not sure what.
I used the harness and wired everything through that. And the extra wires the red/greed and the brown I just put a seal off connector on so it wouldn't touch anything. I do not know how i could have messed anything up since did not leave the trunk. |

umh, sounds familiar.
Is it noise, like slightly pour reception? Do you get the same sound while playing a CD? What type of amp are you using? Did you use any type of converter, or does your amp accept high level inputs? |

yes pour reception on some stations but other stations that used to come in great now i can't get, no CD is fine, JL Audio 500/5 is the amp i am using,
No converter and yes it accepts high level inputs. Playing a CD sounds fine just the radio is now getting poor reception.. very frustrating |

JustinB181, well, guess you are better off than me then. I've got noise all the time. Pretty sure a lot of it has to do with my converter. Haven't had time to mess with it. Good Luck.

I still have had no luck, does anyone have an idea how to fix my poor FM reception? I don't think i did anything to the antenna, i did remove the oem amp and cut the factory harnesses off to wire up my JL audio amp but thats it.

Justin I have the same problem and have for awhile now. I had my HK subs removed and I have a JL 500/1 amp installed in my trunk under the deck in it's place. I'm using factory HU with line convertor. AM reception is perfect so its not my antenae. When i turn the amp off the FM reception is back to excellent, when the amp is turned on, FM reception is horrible. I can't even get some stations that are perfect with it off. CDs play perfect with no noise at all. Someone help me and justin please

I am in the same position as all of you, i removed my OEM amp so I can not isolate it to the fact it is my new amp as i have the 500/5 and it is powering my whole car. It is VERY frustrating and I want to get it fixed. My AM never worked very well but my FM was always perfect even could pick up weak signals from out of town stations. Maybe everyone post what they have tried and then go from there.?????
