Question on OEM Business CD Player retrofit

My car comes with cassette, YES, cassette player. I want to retrofit the single in-dash CD player in its place.

Questions
1. Is this possible?
2. Is there a difference in the CD players throughout the year model? Facelift vs pre-facelift? I read somewhere there's a lil difference in the antenna socket.
3. Anyone has part numbers of everything I need for this retrofit?

Thanks a lot!

Just buy it and plug it in. It's that simple. One thing though, I believe 2002+ cars have a different antenna plug but I'm not positive.

Late model builds (Sep./Oct.?) 2002 and up have different antenna connections.

The early ones have two leads/connectors - a small and a large. The new radios have only one connector - small.

The trick is to find an adapter that connects the large lead to the small connector on the newer radio. (Someone mentioned a Diamler-Chrysler antenna adapter works well - can't confirm that.) Others have used multiple adapters to get the desired connection. (Motorola to something else to the radio connector).

Most are leaving the small antenna lead disconnnected - but are also reporting reception that isn't quite as good as it was.

The early radios used a dual-antenna technology... switching automatically between the antenna set that is receiving the strongest signal. Not sure if that was discontinued - or if they found a way to wire the two leads into one receptor on the radio.

This is the "wiring" incompatibility BMW Parts departments will tell you exists if you call and want to upgrade a 99/2001/2002 radio to a newer radio that is Sirius compatible.

*Edit... I noticed you are in Jakarta... everything above applies to E46s sold in the USA - don't know if it applies to your area.

So let's see, if I have a 2003 car, I could just buy one that comes with only one antenna connection and it's a straight plug and play?

Thanks guys

That would be correct... at least for those sold in the US.
