Best Radardetector

Hey guys, Im in the market for a radar detector. Search through thisi board I hear all kinds of good things about the V1, as a matter of fact I don't think anybody ever said anything is better than the V1 other than the escort that some people like. I went on the radartest site a couple days ago and read a review http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=1064 , that claims that the BEL980 is the best detector you can get, at least for the Ka band. I live in SoCal. Can anybody tell me how much truth is in that review, are these guys biased or is some shadyness involved?

Because it seems to me from real life users, that the V1 is the better option.

Thanks for your input.

V-1 Hands down. The V-1 is upgradeable, multi options for stealth display, volume control. The unit comes with all sorts of mounting options that are well thought out and a very comprehensive operators manual. It can be programed to block out X band if you so desire. Too many posititive.

The thing that I love the most is the ARROWS. Nothing like knowing where the signal is coming from!

I have had many radars from the big original Escort boxes, to cobras, K40's, etc. V-1 is my choice.

V1 if you want better quality, arrows, and don't mind the bulk
Passport if you want it sleek.

I live in So. Cal and the V1 accomplishes what I need it to do. It has given me ample warning on the city and highway. I love it and def. worth every penny. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys, it seemed to me that that review seemed a little biased anyways.

I'm definitely going to pick up a V1 myself. I've heard the BEL's are decent, but I've seen a number of them go bad in the past. Never heard a bad thing about the V1's though!

I have a V1.. Id say with the bogey counters and flashinf arrow indicators.. it is the best hands down.. look at this comparo.. Id say V1 is the best even if it costs that extra $$$.

http://www.speedzones.com/

Theres the site.. everything you need to know about detectors/dector, detectors. jammers, scanners. etc.. Its LOOONG but i recommend reading all of it. Its interesting.

How is the V1 when it comes to instant on? I was recently stopped by a cop cause I think he instant radared me. It was night, my crappy cobra went off and immediately slowed down. After about 2 minutes, I thought I was past the cop, I started to speed up and the cop shot me again and was on me like stink on ****. I pulled over and after a LONG wait, he was nice enough to let me go. sorry for the boring story.

I have a long straight 2 mile road I travel to my office. The cops park in the parking lot and have a wireless radar gun and they stand on the apron and shoot the cars. Our parking lot openning is in the middle of a school zone so they pick up people speeding through it.

Sometimes they leave the gun on, but most of the time its Ka band with him picking a car and pulling the trigger in an "instant on" type situation.

I usually pick it up somewhere in the 2 miles prior. My V-1 emits that it picked up a signal on Ka with the arrow pointing in front of me. It never does this unless they are down there so I know in advance. The cop rarely triggers me as I am going slow enough, but a few times they zap the car next to me and it goes off full blast.

It is the early detection that is key. However, solo car on a road, the cop is watching for you, it is probably going to be tough with anything. Now if you drove by the cop in the night, you should have seen his headlights following you and recognized what they looked like so you could monitor where he was after you passed him.

The detector does a lot to help out, but your eyes and awareness can do SO much more never mind thinking like a cop as to where a good spot is to target people. Where I live, they have no originality and are usually in the same area a few times a month.

How do you program V1 so that it doesn't pick up X band?

Like PDACPA said though, the best detector is to use your eyes and think like a cop. I use a V1 though. I need the arrows cuz when I drive on the 5 to/from San Francisco, the cops are on both sides of the road and often cross the dirt divider and go the other way.

My V-1 manual is at home in my garage. If you look in there it will tell you how to put your V-1 into program mode and turn off x band. I like knowing when radar is going on so mine is on and the event some little rinky dink police department has an old radar gun.

You might try valentine's website for info.

If money is no object, the Escort SRX is hands down the best.
