Raced a WRX!

Ook Believe it or not? I was driving by the University of Minnesota 2 nights ago and at a red light, this blue (looks) stock pulls up next to me. He revs his engine at me and me, i Dont really race a lot. So i said fcuk it. Put it in Steptronic, we both took off at the light his front bumper was at my door. Then 2 blocks later his front bumper is at my rear bumper. I thought those cars were fast. Unless there was a bad driver.

Errr....i think you guys are giving WRX's too much credit. They are only quick off the line, and you have to be VERY VERY VERY good to not bog the engine at launch with w4d. I have smoked a bunch in my manual 330 back when my car was stock...I also got smoked off the line a couple of times but was able to catch up. Highway, forget about it. Either they have bad gearing or the small turbos run out of juice, but I was able to pull away from a reasonable modified one (bolt ons from what I could see) up to 140.

WRX are fast cars! The turbo just kicks in and you feel it too. I think that guy was a bad driver.

If I was into Japanese cars, WRX would be my first choice even though the design is super ugly.

i don't think he was racing you. WRX does low 13's and 330s do high 14s.

WRX does LOW 13's!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????? SINCE WHEN??????????

You're tripping man.

At higher speeds, from my experience, stick 330>stick WRX.

Agreed, WRX's are overrated. Stock, that is. They are slow on the highway, a 330 should be able to take one.

Naturally, with a stock turbo, modding them isn't hard, and it's the multitudes of modded WRX's out there that are giving the car the reputation it has.

Now, the STi is another story. A totally different story.

That's what I was thinking. STi's are the ones to worry about, unless I'm mistaken. The new STi's have 300hp/tq, right? What are the base WRX's pushing?

Try doing it in a 3400 lb car with 176 lbs of torque.

hmmm, i guess it depends on how agressive this guy wants to be...a good launch in an awd car is at like 4k or higher...thats not too great for the clutch so most people wouldent go around doing that all the time... but anyways i dont think this guy was trying too hard..ive been led to believe that a wrx is faster when driven to its fully potential but this is only off the line...on the freeway our cars are awesome...anyway its a sabaru...ive been tempted many times to trade my car in for a sti, but i just cant get over the interior and exterior...maybe one day if it doesent have to be my daily driver.. btw i drove my friends step 330ci and then my 5spd 330ci back to back and i would have to say there is a pretty noticable difference...if any stock 330 has a chance of beating a wrx it would be a manual IMO

I think stick vs. stick 330 would take it in the long run, off the line WRX will be easier to launch and dare I say faster to 20 or 30mphs.

Auto vs auto, well, I can't say I never raced an auto wrx before. It should be close because the auto wrx won't be able to launch at 6k rpms like what the stick wrx's can do.
