I just want hear peoples opinions on this dealer installed accessory. Where is it installed, what is the cost, how is the quality of sound, is it recommended for an iPod owner.

well I don't have one, but i know the part costs ~$40 and it's installed in the glovebox. I'm assuming it would sound as good as your cd player or changer..

Speaking as someone who has one and uses it with the Ipod, I love it! It sounds great,is a pretty cheap add-on. There is ONE problem however, that is at certian times the sound coming from the aux input gets distorted, the sound will only come out from one channel and distort, it is only by "futzing" around with the cable will the sound come back. It has no rhyme or reason. It is my understanding that it is a defect and they are working on creating another "version" of the aux input. Either way its good deal for use with an MP3 Player.

glovebox?

Is it possible to have it installed somewhere else? Perhaps beside the sub-woofer button? glovebox is probably the worst place for this, how are you going to change tracks when your ipod is in the glovebox?

the wire should be long enuf to dangle from in side the glove box, and u keep the i-pod anywhere, as long as ur cable is long nuf (UGLY IMHO)

but ofcourse u can install it anywhere as long as u can snake the wires. i put it by the coin-holder. thats y i have no warrenty.

This is what I did, I liked what a4agarwal had done and duplicated it. IMO this is a very clean install.

cncmastr i see that in your setup, the iPod is connected via the FireWire cable. My question being, is the iPod's battery being charged while the car is in use? And is there a way to hook it up so that you can control the iPod via the steering wheel console buttons and not actually touching the device.

http://icelink.densionusa.com/ they make what your looking for, it allows you to use your steering wheel to control the Ipod.

The wire that is connected to my Ipod is this: this serves two functions, 1. It allows you to use the built-in amplifier of the belkin car kit and 2. It allows you to charge your Ipod while it is in your car.

BTW thats NOT my car, my setup is like that but its not my car it is a4agarwal's car.

there are other MP3 players out there
and people may have other things to connect into the aux input (laptop)

I have tried the aux input with my laptop and it works fine. However, I have to run the laptop on battery power since I don't have a DC to AC rectifier. I was just testing this but it does work fine. Check out the DIY install by 31st330i (not sure of his URL, do a search). I did my Ipod install this way (but I used the AUX input instead of a changer input) and it allows for charging, hardwire so no unsightly wires and I stash the Ipod in a euro tray so it is completely concealed. The only downside is the lack of readout on the headunit/use of steering wheel controls (you can change volume obviously but not tracks).

I think the AUX inputs are more than 40 bucks now.
