Drag Racing

I'm really into RACING(Drag, Autocross, Street,etc....). My main thing is drag racing. I just want to see if there are any other drag racers or street racers here.

Just in case your wondering, here is the timeslip on my SS:

Garrett,
What times specifically are you getting? Is your car stock? What is your 60ft time?

I appreciate it.

I've done some street racing. I don't get too excited about drag racing cause it just tests the car's power, and trust me, you'll just want more and more . Thats how it is with me, thats why I'm getting an M3 soon, but just to autocross, maybe a trip to the strip every once in a while. Autocrossing tests the driver's skills, and the car's abilities. Nice times with your SS. Nice to see an F-body get that low naturally aspirated. Lots of guys it seems just slap on a vortech and call it good. If you really want to dig into that motor and get a great amount of power check out my brothers speed shops located in Dallas and Houston www.horsepowerengineering.com. He is very familier with the LS1 motor.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention my brother has a 97 SS, and its black with a silver stripe on it, kinda similar to yours . His last motor he built (383 LT1) for it was around 600 hp naturally aspirated. He's not satisfied with that though, lol.

Drag racing

I just got back from my local drag strip. I thought with all the cool weather we have been having, I would see what my car could do since the shark injector upgrade. Stock, the best i could get out of my car was 15.6 at about 89. My best time last night was 15.2 at 91.09mph, thats a considerable incraese with just an ecu upgrade and an intake. I have the pulley kit and exhaust on the way so my goal is 15 flat. we will see. Does anyone else have times for a 325i 5 speed?

Nice 60 foot time, running slicks? What mods do you have. My 99 1LE best run is 12.9

did you shift at 7k rpm redline when you did the 1/4 mile with the shark? did you have to do a 3rd to 4th shift for the 1/4 mile? or were in 3rd gear when you finished the 1/4 mile.

I just finished a few more mods including an intake that goes into the bumper and the UUC underdrive pulley kit. I went to the track and my best for the night was 15.000 at 93.64 my 60' was 2.245. I shift at around 7 and i finish in 3rd at about 6-6500. If only there was a tail wind i would have been in the 14's lol.

that's a very nice time, if you just shift a little faster you'll get into the 14's

Time slip

My performance mods are as follows:
UUC Short Shifter
UUC Underdrive Pulley Kit
Custom Aluminum 3" intake in the bumper
Shark performance Software
(have an appointment thurs for full exhaust)
This was my best run on my sh#ty all-weather tires.
I have got the launch down preety good, I take it to about 5,000, bring the clutch out just before it grabs, slowly release the clutch while slowly applying gas.
I wish more people on the board would look at this slip before saying that the 2.5 is slow, all it takes is a few mods and some practice and you can hang with quite a few fast cars on the road. Plus there is nothing better than beating 2 door sports cars with your 4 door sedan.

I will try to get to the track after the exhaust is done, then hopefully i can post some times in the 14's
I really want to start focusing more on suspension since auto-x is my main goal with the car.

Aren't you launching a lil too high??? Ever tried to launch it at around 3800?

I have tried it at a number of different rpm's but i was under the impression that the higher the better as long as you are getting traction. I will try that though on wed., so just hold it at 3800 and let the clutch out slowly while applying gas??

This is how I launch....now that I have a differential on my car, I launch at 2000rpm.....
I rev at 2000rpm and hold the gas as still as possible, right hand on ebrake so my car does not move froward or backwards because of any minor slop, left foot on clutch.
When green or go, let clutch and ebrake go at the same time. Do not let out slowly, just pop it out and gas it at the same time. If wheels start spinning, continue gasing but feather the gas until you get traction, then shift into 2 when you reached the rpm you want to shift at and cont.

Try 3800, might be too high, I really am not sure. You have to practice and feel what your car is like. Basically, if its spinning too much, you might want to launch at a lower rpm. Then test that....if its in between....you try something a lil higher again. But for SURE....anything more than 4000rpm is too much on your car. Hope I helped. Not the expert on this but just my opinion.

I plan to time my car also soon.....I am interested to see what kinda times I get, sounds interesting.
