Smile Nice Job

So, you found them, after a long search, figured out how to install them and then have the gaul to post them on E46fanatics? I'm impressed. They look good in the car. Glad you didn't send in the "I can't tell what color my car is" photo.

And now, you are probably feeling pretty fat and happy, with the 330 and the seats and all and I know you are pretty proud of this but at the same time, I just want to remind you that (even though this may be blasphemous on this web site),
This is still a great ride!

You need either some leatherique or some spinneybeck leather cleaner BAD.

Other than that, great job.

For those that don't know, the width adjustable lumbar makes the M3 seats feel VERY different. Swapping between the M3 and the Barge, I felt like I had switched to a Volvo. The difference is that huge, and it ISN'T related to the rear hatch.

Yes, I did see that option, but decided against it. I was worried about finding a good replacement nut/bolt combo that was of the proper strength, like a tempered one (this is a seatbelt attachment point, after all). Probably wouldn't have been a factor, but I'm a worry-wart.

Plus I didn't even know if the new seats were even going to work, so even though swapping the seat rails was more labor, I saw it as a guarantee that I could reverse things to their original, pristine, factory condition without making any permanent modifications...

If I was doing it again? I might just drill out the rivet as you suggest, though.

Well, I should mention that the thigh extensions got broken in shipping, so that was another $200 to fix (less than I thought, actually) and UPS didn't pay for it even though they were insured (they claimed improper packing, which is probably true, but still!)

Plus $200 more for shipping them to begin with, and now we're up to $2000. Plus, there's a tire mark on one of them from somebody ingeniously storing a tire on it, which if fixed would be several hundred more (couldn't clean it). But I'm still happy to have them, because they're just darned hard to find.

If anybody knows how to remove a tire stain from leather I'm all ears...

Just wanted to update this thread to let you know that the tire stain on this M3 seat is gone. Not through any new miracle cleaner, but from simply being exposed to sunlight all summer. The same UV that fades your sidewalls fades tire stains too, given time.

This may be encouraging to anyone else with a tire or rubber stain. Keep that leather clean and conditioned, but park so the sun hits the stain, and you will gradually see it fade away like I did.

Much less work and headache plus if you ever wanted to put the sedan seats back in all you'd have to do is bolt the tensioner to the sedan seat rails again.

Nice work though and congrats.
Bringing this back from the dead, I just did a swap of '01 M seats into my '99 328 and figured I'd add my $0.02. You don't have to drill anything or even swap both seat rails. If going into a sedan you only have to swap the rail with the seatbelt anchor (outboard) - it's only got 2 nuts holding it in place so that's a piece of cake.

For the other rail, depending on the years involved, you may have to swap the seat belt buckle & tensioner - check the wiring harness for the buckle connector at the big yellow underseat connector to see that they have the same # & config. of wires. If they're the same you can just leave that side alone. If not you'll have to unbolt the buckle and tensioner using a T50 socket and swap it over. If the connectors for the tensioner are different you'll have to bring the whole big yellow connector over, just remove the back cover and pull the individual plugs free, leaving just the 2 wires for the tensioner which are firmly attached to that connector.

Ok, finally found a thread on this. I bought M3 vert seats and I am having an issue: bolts are wider in my 323i than the rails on the m3 seats. Anyone face this? here's pics!

wow this is an old thread bump.

it has always been said convertible seats won't swap for a few reasons. this is the first of hearing the bolt holes don't fit. Not sure if that's because the convertibles have different metal welded in to make the seat attachments stronger. but I know M3 coupe seats fit a 323Ci, so it's not a 323 thing.

I was thinking about doing the seat swap to, from 2002 m3 to 2002 330i and it looks like it should work, but the thing i want to know is, if the seat belts are now attached to the seat, what do you do with the seat belts coming from the b pillar? I would prefer not to have to sets of belts.

Congrats on not being disappointed on what you've done. Quick question, from what I could see in your first post in the picture, they look just like my seats. I have a 2000 323 Ci with the sport package. Is there any difference? I'm not bragging, just wondering if the sport package came with "sport seats".

Yes Sport Package comes with Sport seats. The non-M sport seats are not the same as M3 seats. You can't see the backrest at the shoulders and headrest totally different and leather grain is smooth Nappa. M3 seats also come in exclusive colors and option ordered adjustable side bolsters to keep one snug.

The Sports Package IS the seats. It's other stuff too, but the seats are a big part of the package.

I'm not sure, but you need to do more homework to see if the seats that have the belts in them can be used on cars with the belts in the B-pillar.

I looked over a lot of threads about m3 seat swap to non m3 and no one has ever mentioned what they do with the second set of seat belts on attached to b pillars. I also looked at the interior b pillar trim for m3's but they also have a spot for seat belt so I do not understand. If the seat belts are attached directly to the seat in m3's then why does the pillar trim also have a spot for a belt?
