My Ride: 2002 BMW 330i
Post From coupe to sedan - 330i

I bought another E46 on April 8th, 2015 to replace my first car,a 330Ci, which was rear ended (More in this thread)
Losing my previous car was kind of bittersweet; I loved it for all the work I put into it and the fact that it was my first car but also it had some paint issues and I was getting a torque converter lock up code. After searching for 3 months I had finally found a very clean 1 owner 330i with all receipts. Glad I finally have an e46 once again!

Ill just be posting mods/additions to the car. Would love to hear any possible mods from any of you!

Interior:
  • Dash cam install
  • Dice Silverline duo (now making a hissing noise, big POS)
  • Sunshade clips (Still need to replace the driver)

Exterior:
  • Angel eyes
  • Lip Spoiler
  • Front License plate delete
  • Gloss Black Kidney Grilles
  • Plastidipped Headlight Inserts

Mechanical:
  • Meyle HD FCAB
  • ATE Rear Rotors with Textar Pads (Working pretty well so far)

I was thinking of getting "rcr" lights for the back and clears for the front but I don't know if I should go smoked or not.

Yeah that, a gloss black grille and black headlight trim are on the list. Thinking of getting some black out tape or something and doing the window surrounds with that.

So did a couple things over the past 3 weeks since school is finally out.

- Gloss Black front grille from ECS Tuning
- Rear Brake Job (ATE/Brembo Rotors, Textar Pads and OEM brake sensors)
- Brake fluid flush, replaced with Valvoline DOT 3/4 fluid
- Driver Rear window regulator. It took a while and I didn't bother doing the passenger rear because it wasn't making a cracking noise just yet. Replaced with URO premium, will report back how they hold up.
- Sunshade clip replacement
- Plastidipped headlight inserts black
- Differential Oil change (That oil STINKSSSS)
- Cleaned out all the brake dust from the inside of each wheel
- Passenger Airbag recall repair completed

I still have a couple more maintainance things planned like a coolant flush, transmission fluid change and valve cover gasket. Not going to do a full cooling system overhaul because the previous owner got a lot of the components replaced as part of preventive maintenance. I am a little afraid to do the automatic transmission flush because I feel like im gonna end up killing my transmission some how. Using OEM gaskets and filters and Valvoline Maxlife Mercon/Dextron.

6-15-2015 | Wash and Paint Correction on the Hood

Gave the car a nice wash then clay barred the hood in prep for paint correction. Used a harbor freight DA and Megs 105/205 along with Lake country Orange, White and Black pads. Pretty happy with the result! Just have to do the rest of the car gradually.

Took some pics in Dunwoody, Georgia while I made a harbor freight run.

Yeah thinking of rcr's next. Don't think I need a new lens because there is just some dust inside the headlight when I left the lens out.

7-3-2015 | Gaskets & Fluids

Finally tackled some big jobs on the car because of all the spare time I have

- Valve cover gasket
- Automatic Transmission fluid and filter & gasket change
- Paint corrected trunk and passenger fender
- New front badge

Valve Cover Gasket:
Valve cover gasket was pretty simple. I was amazed at how well the previous owner took care of the car. Once I took the valve cover gasket off I saw close to no gunk on the vanos or under the valve cover. Got a new OEM gasket and used silicon sealant near the VANOS as instructed in the bentley manual.

Automatic Transmission Fluid Change:
The automatic transmission fluid and filter change was the biggest pain in the ass. I got the car raised up and took off what I thought was the fill plug as everyone says it's near the back of the car. I then drained the fluid and started removing the transmission pan bolts only to find that one of them was seized on and that I stripped the head. I ended up having to use a screw extractor to get it out. Went smoothly from there until I had to fill the transmission. Got everything bolted and torqued back down and tried to pump fluid in only to realize what I removed wasnt a fill plug. It looked like one but I guess it wasnt one. I found the actual fill plug and then realized it was seized on pretty tight. I proceeded to bang my head into the concrete at that point .

The fill plug is in such a tight place that I couldn't fit a normal socket wrench in and I had to use an allen key. I tried to put a pipe around the allen key to get more leverage but that only ended up partially stripping the head. I put more pb blaster on there and banged my head on the concrete for 20 more mins, hammered the allen key deep into the head and then finally after 1 hour of wrestling with it I heard the satisfying crack of the plug coming loose. At that point I called it a day and went to bed as it was 1am

The next day I awake to all the transmission fluid on the ground because my crappy walmart oil drain pan leaked overnight I wiped up as much as I could and finished the transmission oil change. Car runs much better and I don't have any hesitation between shifting from reverse to drive anymore.
