Now that I have done a track event...
Having participated in my first track event at Oktoberfest, I am now somewhat jaded on auto-x. The ability to be on the track for 1/2 hour stretches as opposed to wait 10 minutes, run 60 seconds, wait 10 minutes, run 60 seconds etc... was amazing. And the speed...
Anybody else experience this? From a new, certified, track junkie... |

I started at track events and then tried autocross. I felt the same way as you and I just don't like autocross very much.

You're not the only one. I did 3 autoX with LA and SD chapters and tried my first track school with Driving Concepts. Never tried AutoX eversince.
Since you've been to the the Fest event (calif speedway?), check out upcoming ThunderHill (golden gate chapter), Buttonwillow (central calif chapter) and sears point (golden gate chapter). All are organized by BMW CCA and they are 2-day driving school. Trust me, 2-day is better than 1-day.

Autocross and track days each have their ups and downs. True autocrosses are kinda like going to Great America and waiting in line for 3 hours just to get on a one minute ride. But oh what fun that ride is.
The local Audi club is cool because they do nine runs as opposed to the standard six runs most clubs do. I'll be running with them as much as possible. Autocross is super cheap and it's super safe (usually) but at the cost of speed and duration. It's the opposite with track days. Autocross is just as challenging as anything else and I like that. After my first track weekend this coming september with Windy City BMW I'll be doing both as much as possible.

Welcome to the track bug, there is no turning back now. You can also try NASA they have HPDE which is a high performance driving event you dont need a race car and you get plenty of track time. You can go up the ranks such as HPDE1, 2, 3, 4 and then Time trials. groups 1 and 2 are instructor based and then you can go to 3 which is on your own with limited passing. Group four is open passing anywhere. Time Trials are for point and trophies so the competition is fierce. I know you will like it. Their website is www.nasaproracing.com Good luck.
