Tire width

This might be a stupid question, but: Can I buy wider tires then what I currently have? In otherwords, my rear tires are 8.5 wide, can I get 9" without changing the rim? Or I can't do that?

Tires are measured in sizing like 245/40R17, not by width in inches. However, from your info it looks like you have a 330Ci Sport? You can go to 255/40R17 rear which is about .3 inches wider and taller, which will fit fine on the stock 8.5" wheel.

Sorry for a dump question but what's the effect(pros and cons) of having a wider tires besides the look? in terms of handling, launch, straight line speed etc?

8" and 8.5" is the rim width. tire width are spec'd in millimetres (mm).

you've got 225mm wide in the front and 255mm or 245mm wide tires in the rear.
