Staggered or same size all around, what would you guys choose?
I'm trying to decide between a 19x8.5 all around set up so i can rotate my tires or 19x8.5F 19x9.5R. I wont have much disposable income in the next few years so I think a staggered setup will end up costing me too much both immediately and in the long term.
235/35/19 all around - i just dont like how the rear tires will be an inch more narrow. So would you guys rather shell out for staggered or save money in w/ the uniform setup?

When ordering my wheels and tires, I went with the advice of Tire Rack and got 8.5's all around. I've been kicking myself for months that I didn't go staggered.

I'm going from staggered 18" oem setup to a same size 8" setup.
225/45/18 front to 255/35/18 to 235/40/18 on all 4

Do not go 8" all the way around it looks to small. I went w. 18'x8" all around and my only regret is that I lost some of the agrresive stance my 330ci had w/ 8.5" in the rear. I had to buy spacers to pull the rear wheel out from under the car, it had that sunk-in look. If you can go w/ at least 8.5" all around you will probally still need spacers but it will look much more agrresive. |

somebody was telling me if you get a staggered set...it maximizes performance...mainly bc you have more "meat" on the tires...
wow...i hope that made sense what i just wrote...

Most people will tell you to get staggered because of the bling factor, but really all it does it induce understeer compared to all-around . I can relate that it does look very nice to have a staggered setup, but I guess the question you have to ask yourself is, can you live with a staggered setup, do you prefer no tire rotation, and do you not mind getting almost 2 rear tires for one front tire (tread life). I was thinking about a staggered look for my car when I was custom ordering my wheels, but I still went same offset all the way around because I preffered to rotate, and tires can get pretty expensive.
Edit: It should be noted that for high power rwd cars, a staggered setup is more beneficial though (i.e. M3). But for a 3-series, I think an all-around setup is more ideal when it comes to performance. Last edited by KP; 07-16-2004 at 01:16 PM. |
