Car is misfiring, replaced likely components and still same prob..

I have been having the same problem too. It all started of course with a check engine light and then leading to misfiring of the engine. I car is shaking really bad and has loss in power. So, I pluged the car to a code reader and I got the following: P0300, P1345, P1346, P1347, and a few other. The first ones I took care of were replacing the thermostate housing and sensor, both the cam-shaft positioning sensors (intake and exshast) and that did not fix the problem. So the next thing I did was check the car with the code reader and I had an iginition system or misfire code, so common sense told me to replace the spark plugs first and still nothing. The next thing I replaced was the ignition coils and boots. After doing this I reset the check engine light and I am still having the same problem. The only error (code) I get now is P1347 which is the ignintion control sytem or misfire code. I am not sure what to do next other than check the inginition module or ECU???? Can anyone help out? the other thing that I could think of is replacing the cables that conect to the ignition coils. Man, by the time I am done I will have replaced everything...I need help!

Sometimes it's easier and cheaper to just go to a dealer!

i have the same exact problem i replaced the spark plug and still the same, my mech told me that he had the same problem with another e46 that had the same problem as your and mine, they replaced the spark plugs, the coil and nothing same problem and the problem was the engine control module it's like a mini computer located under the hood inside that black box right next to the brake fluid tank. i called the dealer and gave them the part# it goes for $1100.

im having the same problem, ive changed the plugs but not the coil yet...i can get the coil for 75 bucks but might not even bother bc that doesnt seem to help very much..HAs anyone ever had this problem and actually fixed it by changing the coil?

I see this is an old thread but wanted to know if you guys ever fixed it..I was told that the fuel injector might be bad which would make sense, how much do those go for?

BTW the reader said "cylinder 6 misfire" and I have the same symptoms as you guys did. when it gets really bad the engine light comes on and it hops alot and sporadic RPM but jsut restarting ameks a big difference, but even then there is a noticable loss in power and it feels like its ready to go bad again at any moment. any feedback would be helpful

hmmm . . . my ride is also misfiring. I changed the spark plugs but cylinder 1 and 3 are still mis firing. Also the fault code is showing that both my oxygen sensors are overloaded. I think I will be calling my shop for an appointment.. .

I don't know, but if it was my car, I would try to open that black box, and remove the connectors, spray some contact cleaner in them and try it again.
If the tech installs a new computer and the car works well, if he's a good tech, he will re-install the old one back to make sure it was the problem, but I suspect that a lot of these guys are so happy to have found the problem and make some $$$ that they just close the hood and give you the bill.

I would check your O2 sensors, can you see what the voltages are, my obd2 reader will register them and then also display STFT. I am betting that you have an O2 sensor/cat issue and the car is adjusting STFT (short term fuel trim) and that is what is causing the misfire codes. Went thru this recently.

I am also getting this problem. I just got two Bosch Post O2 sensors that I will be putting in tomorrow and chaning the fuel filter also.

I'll update you guys how it goes.

I currently have P1347

If I drive the car HARD, real HARD, I got like 3 or 4 cylinder misfire code, if I clear it out and drive it around for a few days only P0174 and P0171 with P1347 comes back.

I've done some changing also, thats due at 100K I currently have 95K

Spark Plugs
Coils
Clean MAF Sensor
CCV with all hose
Lower Intake Boot

and I'm going to put in this weekend fuel filter and post O2 sensors.

I'll give you guys an update on monday

I have the same problem with my car. I keep getting P0306 (misfire cylinder 6)
I changed all the spark plugs, #6 coil and injector and also the wiring harness but the code still comes up. The car doesnt misfire all the time, when i drive a long distance without stopping its fine. But when i stop at a light it starts to misfire, and if i turn the car off and restart it its fine. My mechanic thinks its the engine lifters. What do you think? .....Jay

Wowww...!!! I am really surprised how many cars have the same problem !!!!
My car has exactly the same problem and everything started when I refilled the gas tank in a gas station that is close to my house. It happened to my car's wife (Audi 4) and my prior 328ic...! ...I think is the quality of the gas...!
or is because the gas is mixed with water.
I purchased yesterday a water treatment and dropped the all bottle in the gas tank of my car. It worked in my wife's car when it had the same problem, but I also changed the fuel filter.
I hope it works in my car...!!! I will change the gas filter this coming Monday. I'll let you guys know.
Good luck!!!
