Arrow 316 N42 oil type?

Hello to everyone .
i have 2002.yr , 316i n42 , 188 000 km so far, and it use 5w-30 BMW oil but it takes 1 liter / 1000 km This is to much but many people say it is normal for this model and i got advise from mechanic to go for Mobile 0w-40 ,
and from someone got to go for Mobile 5w-50 , and that that should cut down oil consumption. Does anyone have the same problem and find the solution for it?i have no leaks
Thanx

That consumption is higher than normal from my opinion. I'm not sure if your model engine has it but if so you will need to replace your oil separator (assuming you have no leaks). I've seen around 1qt/500 miles (approx 1l/800km) consumption for failed separators

That's pretty high for the n42, the longest i've gone without an oil change was 10,000kms, and even then I didn't have to top up. If you're not burning it you're leaking it. Check the fuel filter area for leaks, have a look under and around the engine. Any spots on the ground, if not you're burning it. Do a compression test to check for leaks.
