i went to BMW of SF when mine broke in, said it wont be covered by warranty but would gladly accept 3500 cash , i said WTF!!! wrote a letter to BMW NA if i could somehow be reimbursed for having my car fixed and they say that they're not responsible for wear and tear and its not a manufacture defect. Wear and tear my @ss my car is falling apart!

Most body shops will quote you 2500 to 3k for crossmember repalcement and labor. Reinforcements 1k to 1500k, bUt i got mine for 800 bucks here in frisco.

First off...everyone that has been affected by this problem needs to call BMWNA customer relations and file a complaint. Next, you should take it to a dealership and have their head tech. inspect it so he can varify to BMWNA that it is the 'true' problem. This the only way you have any chance for a BMW rep. to look at your car. Also, please make a complaint on the NHTSA.com. I know i repeating this stuff but i'm reiterating the fact this needs to be taking care of first.

Oh yeah... where is the BMWNA Customer Relations guy and his o so helpful posts?

I'm not surprise the least bit at the number of people already on the list. Keep it up for a few more days there is no telling how many we might have, especially with everyone running out to get the subframes checked after this post.

Seems to be a 328/323 problem.......And you really need to add a column detailing the mods besides each car. BMW NA will get you on that fact. They WILL claim that. It has been done in the past.

You should have two lists. A stock list and a mod list...just my 2 cents

People dont as much attention to stickys...so let the thread free float for a while. Have you posted on Bimmerfest.com too?

Fed up

I just got my quote from Rallye BMW in Long Island and it is.......$2800. They can't guarantee that it will be fixed for good. I've had enough of this ****. People spend so much of their hard earned money on an automobile which is the so-call ultimate driving machine but can not get the respect they need from the manufacturer. How may lives will be lost before they say it's a problem. I'm done with BMWs. Benz here I come. Not they are any better. Sons of *****es.

that really blows. BMWNA

I would contact an attorney at this point. No reason why anyone should be paying a dime on this defect. Its a safety issue but BMW wants to keep it all hush hush to avoid a major recall on all E46 3 series. No way BMWNA doesn't know about this problem if Bmw in Europe have responded by applying strengthing foam to cars brought in to service.

From what I understand when i talked to a body shop, they told me. Even if you drive harder then normal sub frames should not be tearing after 20,000 - 80,000 miles. My friend has an S2000 its an 2001 that he beats on every day and he has 80K miles and his subframe isnt tearing. My other friend Beats on his Acura TL Type S and his car is perfectly fine...

Shoulda bought a Honda...
