Question Regarding system??

I just recently installed a JL audio 300/4 and 500/1 Amps, 2 JL 10" 10w3 subs and 4 Boston Acoustic Pro60 speakers and kept the stock headunit. My question is should i be running a cap as well. I have a 1 farad monster cap just lying around. The problem is that I tried charging the cap but charges at like 1 mv every 2 minutes so for it to reach 13 volts it would take forever. So all in all i decided not to install the cap and my system sounds fine not electrical problems or dimming lights so far.

I would just like to get some recommendations should i trash the cap and not even bother with it and go with maybe a voltage stabalizer or not even bother with either one of them?

Thanks

A voltage stabilizer would be much better than a cap...but they cost a lot more.

I know Jegs sells them. I remember abour $399 years ago but that was for the 24v version...not sure about the 12v. While Ebay is not the first place to look, it is for caps. You can get a brand name one for about $30-$40 plus about $8-$10 for shipping. Not like caps wear out or break.

I've been preaching to the choir abouit voltage stabilizers/regulators. I'm not sure why it hasn't caught on My idea (and Djabaley) sold a couple of people on the audiocontrol stuff.

A stabilizer would work much better than a cap. A stabilizer can give a rock solid 14.4 volts.

I know US Amps sold a product that regulated voltage at 15.6 volts...forgot the name of it. That's like a supercharger for your amp...if its unregulated.

But in your case, your 2 JL amps wouldn't benefit much from a stabilizer or cap. They are meant to put out a constant wattage regardless of the voltage because the power supplies are tightly regulated.

The only voltage regulator I know of is the Jacobs Accuvolt: http://www.4x4review.com/products/el...l/accuvolt.asp

I've seen it employed in systems before, but only in crazy SPL setups. I've heard tell that if grounded even somewhat poorly it can dump some noise into your system, which isn't something that a lot of SPL people worry about to begin with.

I've made the argument here and elsewhere before that a second battery is a superb way to stabilize your voltage, and it has some nice secondary benefits. The Diamond D5 amps I'm running draw rediculous amounts of current (really just the "600" watt one), and I was experiencing some voltage drop problems. The addition of a second battery has solved a lot of my power issues.

The HO alternator is expensive and, if you care, it will rob you of horsepower.

That's what it was, Jacobs Accuvolt. A second battery is only good for additional 12.6v. Which is okay with JL or anyother regulated amp since it will put out the same wattage from 11.6 volts and up...which is what I should have said earlier.

To be realistic, you don't need a cap in your application.

Djabaley - I think our audiocontrol message is spreading.

I agree about the AC schwag.

However, I worry that most people can't configure it correctly.
