That sucks, in my S2000, when I installed the OEM alarm it had a 10" or so wire that laid in the area under the cluster and that was the antenna. I added a few feet and ran it to the rear of the car and up around the roll over hoop. I had lots of things removed during a stereo install and I am obsessive

Anyways I could lock/ unlock from the opposite side of a mall parking lot. That came in handy when I needed to let someone get something from my car.

On a similar note, I broke my cell phone antenna (Damn Motorola's ) Not being good with a soldering iron, I wrapped a piece of thin gauge silver wire around the broken antenna knub and soldered it in several places and I get the best reception ever. I never replaced the phone since it works better than any phone I ever had.

Upping my post count

Change the battery, mine started getting short and not working right and it was the battery.

I have an 00 323 so if you have a new type key that charges in the ingnition you don't change the battery at all.

"Chin" trick works because alarm remotes use Radio Frequencies to arm/disarm. Your body acts as an extended range antenna. Just like when you have an old radio/boombox etc. and you touch the antenna the station sounds good. Station sounds good because your body is acting like an antenna. Similarly, your body acts as an RF antenna extension for your key fob.

NOTE: Doesn't work on TV remotes since they are infrared signals.

Key under chin won't cause any radiation problems. It's not like a cell phone because a cell phone blasts out -20dBm or more to hit a tower which is a mile away, through an antenna which concentrates the power in a particular direction... that peirces your head. The little battery in the key emits much less power than say... a computer monitor or microwave oven or chordless telephone. My guess the key frequency is a few hundred MHz at most. Your head acts like a big capacitor to increase the gain of the key antenna... making it look longer. (It also make you feel like-one with your car... doesn't it?)

You also don't want your car antenna to be extended or gain increased to give you extra long range. Ever be washing your car with your keys in your a$$ pocket and lock/unlock the car? You don't want to be in the house or somewhere and accidentally unlock the car.

As far as the chin thing goes...can anyone explain why that works? Who figured that one out? Oh I will just touch the key to my chin...I bet that will increase range.

Your Body becomes the antenna

I have a wireless remote for my camera that has very poor range, but if I put my finger on the antenna my range triples. Perhaps using your finger on the metal part will yield the same result for the key.
