when the key senses that it is under your chin, it knows you are desperate so it will increase the transmission power

Good to know. I've always complained about the range and didn't know there was a solution, especially one like this.

The actual antenna is inside the rear view mirror, not the rear window! You could try to extend the wire antenna into your headliner to see what happens......I have a mirror I may try this with

I've replaced the battery in my key and the range still sucks! The 3 series key range sucks, my 5 series is 15x better, both being 2001's using the same mirror and key type, go figure....

on convertibles the receiver is in the rear view mirror. on all fixed hard top BMW's the reciever is the grid on the back glass. nothing can be done to increase range except a new/fully charged battery.

I remember this chin trick to work for all car security remotes since Clifford came out with their remote car alarm back in the late 1970's.

Wonder if I fried any brain cells doing this all these years.

Unbelievable! Thought you all were joking with this thread. I started reading this and then went outside. Sure as a bear craps in the woods, placed under my chin and had an additional 20ft range. Easy DIY!

LMAO u guys are clueless, This works anywhere on your body that has a pulse.
The current on your pulse enhences the range in the key. I usually put it under my wrist just to not look like an idiot with a key stuck on my neck lol

My Ride: 330 CIM VERT
I have an 06 vert and i have to be like 5' away to open my doors. i tried the chin thing and nothing but i did notice a cool trick that if you press unlock twice and continue to hold it the second time all the windows go down and top goes down as well. Very Cool...

It works for me i found this out by just screwing around one day, never thought alot of people had this problem LOL. It works better at your chin because the rf waves are at a higher point thus the signal can be broadcasted easier to your rearview mirror.

I first heard about the key thing with a vw key, cause if you think the bmw's are bad, you'd hate the 2001 vw gti / jetta crap. I'd seriously be touching the car pressing the button without results!

It works very well. Unfortunately for us the vw key's are much better designed for shooting a beam into your brain, this one is too pointy.

Like the poster above said you can extend the antenna on any car, but sometimes chaning the restience in a line can have a strange somewhat unrelated effect. The mod done a vw sometimes gave people random horn blowing, loss of steering wheel buttons, and dimming light issues.

Lets not forget the ancient way of putting the key in the hole people.
