okay...went back and re-read the stuff....w/ the software...don't you have to do AA's thing due to the functionality/tuning of the s/c....also...the rear diff..if i were you, i would go ahead and order a kaz...the stock is weak, they have tons of probs...(im going on my 3rd already) and save yourself the headache, since it won't be warrantied...the kaz is great...that's what my buddy w/ the EVOSport S/C is putting on his..and you can get it from EVOSport...Kaz builds diffs for very high hp cars such as wrxs' and supra's....exhaust...i would imagine the stock system would be too restrictave for the s/c motor and all the intake and plug work you've done to the car...and as for brakes..what kind are you looking to put on the car...and while your at it..you might as well throw on some ss headers and get them ceramic coated....but def. think about the diff..it would only help and save the headache that is waiting to happen...

so MITE whens the next update? I think what ur doing is amazing but im also thinking that u should get an upgraded diff and brakes and possibly headers. Coz its not worth doing this thing without the diff as u'll face problems later on with the extra power (it'll keep breaking). And headers? u might as well now that u got the engine out. Good luck mate.

Just curious! How much all that stuff cost? My must have some serious cash if you are still in college & able to do this. Dam it I wish I had money & time to do this kind of stuff. Any way it is huge task you took on & looks like you doing great. I guess you cant drive car for a long time once you start this project.

Well he is saving a lot on labor since he is doing the work himself. The sc costs what about $8k? you figure probably only a couple grand (at most) for the engine (since it had damaged parts). Maybe another $1-2k in various parts. So guesstimate around $12-14k. I'd say thats a bargain.

i think that money is the least important part of this equation...if he's got the money for all the parts, he's probably got the money to pay someone to do all the work...BUT he's not and that makes his accomplishments twice as admirable...in the tuning scene A LOT of guys just write checks; he's more than paying his dues on this one!! another great thread and another great accomplishment...

Don't get me wrong, the fact that he is doing it himself is incredible!!. I only wish I had that knowledge and skill when I did my swap, I had to pay some one to do it But from the money standpoint, for what he is going to gain in performance, it's a virtual bargain.

Around $15K ha. if I had an another car & a garage & $$$ I would definetly try this. It would be a great project car. All I gotta say is this kid got balls. One thing I would do differently is to add the SC later. I would sort out the M3 engine in 323 and make it work then add the SC. If you have problems getting the engine running now you got other issues to think about. Again it could just work w/o hitch too, which would be awasome.

Not to change the topic but As far as 330 engine transpant in to 323. How do you adapt throttle by wire in to 323? Is it just a pedal connected to throttle or DME with a cable?

No dbw It was a non factor

edit: That's why I'm so envious of him, he won't have it either, plus more power

This is why he goes to MIT. Sick project

I can't imagine putting the AA SC on while the motor is out should be relatively easy. Childs play compared to the other motor work you've done hehe.

What does your family say about all this crazyness??

Alan

I made the affordable by selling off my old blower/random parts, working part time, and saving cash from the original proposed transplant budget. Ended up to be something like $3-4k of actual spending.

gokcer: you're absolutely correct. the guys at AA, BMW, dealers...all told me to install the engine first and get that running before the SC...but the only problem is I won't have injectors, a working airbox, filter, intake, etc...so...yes...I am taking a risk here. If it doesn't work the first time I'll just have to take the sc off and try again I'm actually getting quite good at sc installs, this one only took me a few hours...but then again the engine is out so its really easy....DBW? Yeah that stuff is coming next...I actually have most of the donor car...pedals, all the wiring, center console, seats, light switch, cluster, LSD, suspension, its a whole pile of stuff i haven't even really jumped into...but the next step is to flush the smg and LSD fluid...

AlanL.: Actually im done with MIT now...well 2 years out that is...over at Caltech for another 6 years...I still love the place though =) I can honestly say AA parts are top notch quality. Everything fits like OEM. Instructions...they are MUCH better that ESS by say 2000x but I did notice a few little things...but that is mostly since it was written off of the prototype car...what do my parents say to me? "Don't touch my car" Trust me it pains me to see amber reflectors roll in...but yeah looks like i'll be in the X5 for at least a month.

illG35: Nice car...i must say i like the G35's...anyway taking pictures is a ***** especially when you have to wipe off your hands everytime you snap a pix, but its a good idea to document and some of you guys could benefit from the info...might as well take as many as I can...I actually took over 400 pix yesterday...half of them were blurry since its hard to keep your hand still while holding say a torque wrench...and basically only 100 or so make it to the actual post...

Anyone know what I could possibly do with the old engine? It's only got 40k miles on it...

I would throw it up on the classifieds. If not, you can always save it for something nice. Maybe build a really strong NA motor? Port/polsih/bore/stroke stuff like that? If you need the money just sell it on the classifieds. I am sure a money-shifter somewhere can use it.

seriously though when done you need a SoCal fanatics coming out party when this is done, I'm sure you could plenty of donations generated at that event for future mods!

Keep up the posts and pics, been following this along, check it every Monday morning.

So here's the headers issue...I have no problems dropping in a high flow system...SS, Euro or whatever...but what I have heard from multiple sources is that there's little to no benefit...let's say on a good day you get what 10HP? FI application what 15HP? and that 15 HP is a local maximum...? Plus I heard headers make the car freaking LOUD? Then there is the whole pre post O2 senor extension or emulation thing...hmm...I also have the OEM headers + cats...in good condition...They do look like they are restrictive...but numbers don't lie...thoughts guys? I need some advice =) I'm leaning on leaving it stock...unless someone can give a good argument...
