Different power source for radar detector?

I installed Homelink yesterday and now I have a fun little issue: My radar detector doesn't come on til I press the garage door button.

Can anyone tell me a different switched power source I can use? Is it on the right one but maybe no longer fully connected?

I had mine hooked up to the hot side for the homelink stuff. I should get the homelink so it comes on when I hit the button. It's better than having it completely unplugged to keep from chirping everytime I start the car.

Yeah, the chirping is annoying. I keep the volume all the way down in the city and just turn it up when I get on the highway. But I don't want to risk forgetting to turn it on some time. Plus of course this just isn't right. I feel like maybe I have it spliced off the wrong wire.

there are multiple power sources located in and around your car, the sunroof power supply, a power supply behind your glove box, the power supply to your cigarette adapter, the power supply in the center console along with your BMW pre-wired phone, etc. i think that drawing power for multiple projects off of one power line could be causing it to fail. there is something else i heard around here... maybe a noise filter or something along those lines .. search around, the answer lies in the forums.
