Budget Rims?

What rims and tires would you recommend for someone on a tight budget?

I have a 04 325i and would like some 18"s.

Should I buy a used set?

You DON'T need rims! It's not a do or die situation. Just save up for nice wheels and buy them when you can afford them. The worst thing you can do is to go buy something that you will regret later.

It looks like a budget set goes for around 6-700 so I guess that will be my range.

Nearly all of the places I've looked don't sell rim+tire packages. Why is this?

Mrmotorwerk - I can't see myself paying thousands for rims

What's the definition of "nice wheels." Are they only nice if they're HREs or SSRs with a $3k+ price tag?

Velocity Motors is selling the CSL replicas for $7-800. Those seem pretty nice to me!

If you don't do hard driving, lots of the "non-brand name" wheels will suit you just fine. Check with Velocity, AAA Rims, or Wheelmax, as you've already seen. Hook up what YOU like!

What are you doing with a BMW if you aren't doing any hard driving?

No, price has nothing to do with weather a wheel is nice or not, but keep in mind you have a car that is a lot nicer than the typical everyday driver. Wheels like tires should be bought because they offer the best quality and backed by the best reputation, not because they fit your pocket book. Remember wheels and tires are what's keeping you on the road.

Well, considering that the majority of BMW owners don't drive all that aggressively (consider the target demographic for BMW), I would say that most people purchase because of what BMW really develops their cars for - a BALANCE of luxury, sport, and comfort.

Bottom line is that you can absolutely get reliable and decent looking wheels in the $700 ballpark. There are thousands of happy people that purchase off-brand wheels for their cars, BMWs, Audis, Lexus, etc. without any problems.
