mounting/balancing tire horror

has anything like this ever happened to you guys?

i went to go mount/balance some tires and had to get some old p6000s off the wheels first...the guy there put it on the machine to get the old tire off...and instead of pushing the sidewall off against the rim, it straight out punctured the rim instead leaving an 8-10" gash in the sidewall...happened on another wheel as well....and the tire was stuck on one of them so badly that they couldn't even pull the remnants of the rubber off the wheel...so now one of my wheels is sitting in their shop with rubber remains and a big metal band around the wheel...AND now i have to go buy new tires...

now the guys were telling me that the side wall on low profile tires are supposed to be the hardest but these p6000s that i had on were pretty soft...and they also said that it was because of the age of tires that caused them to be more susceptible to this happening... any thoughts on their comments? believable or not????

oh well...now off to the wheel/tire forum to look for tires....anyone with staggered 17" tires they wanna sell can holler at me if you see this thread...

i had a set of p7000 super sports and one of them went flat so i bring it for repair and they call me back to say they "broke" the tire, so i said "did you break the rim" they said "no the tire" so i asked how the F do you break a tire they are rubber. they told me the sidewall must have been defective and the machine that takes the tire off of the rim ripped right through the sidewall. then they wanted to offer me 1 new tire that was a different model of pirelli which i didnt want, who wants 3 of one model of tire and 1 of another model, but in the end the manager hooked me up with a set of BF goodrich KDW's at almost half off the regular price so i couldnt complain. after they put the tires on they showed me the tire and it was just like yours about 10 rip through the sidewall and he showed me the machine they used and pointed out that the part that pushes the tire off of the rim is not sharp, which it wasnt so i guess it was a defective tire. but anyway good luck man hope you find the tires that you want. if you are interested the KDW's that i have are incredible, nice quiet ride and the handling is incredible.
