Compass / Auto-Dim Mirror Mod Installed with a DIY

Guys, I just retrofitted a compass / auto-dim mirror into my 02 325i sedan that had no auto-dim or rain sensor (spun the clown nose to dim on my old mirror). Anyhow, a few people have done this, but I thought I'd write a DIY since it sounded more challenging than it really was.

First off, everything cost $250 from Circle BMW or Pacific BMW.

You need the following parts:

1. Compass Mirror (either with or without the clown nose)
2. Wiring harness

Part #'s:
- Mirror:
With "clown nose" 51-16-0-028-301
Without "clown nose" 51-16-0-028-300
- Wiring harness: 51-16-0-001-231

Anyhow, thanks to everyone's help whose done this before...

Here's the DIY:

Do you need the wiring harness if you already have auto dimming and only want to add the compass feature?

I think. Only the rain sensor has power there. The harness is just for those 2 pins anyhow. If anyone knew where to get those, im sure you could save $10 on the harness and just make your own...

I know that this thread is just over four years old but my lack of search technique brought it up. What else (different harness?) would be needed if Iím installing a mirror out of a vert with the garage door opener.

ya, after looking at the wds for a while, i came to the conclusion that the only way to get the auto dimming to turn off while in reverse is to add a wire directly from the lcm to the mirror harness..

The only thing I am still a bit lost on is does the Anti Dazzle part get power from somewhere else than the garage door opener, or is one either always on, or always off? I saw in another post the different pin-out's, but does anyone know what each one applies to, and which one gets which power?

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but the DIY link is no longer working. Any mirror to the original source? Is this the harness I need?

I put the link back online.

And the ECS link is part # 51160001231, the same part # listed in the DIY
