The HK is not worth it at ALL!

Waste of money... You can't tell the difference between the HK and stock...

Amen to that. I put a $200 Pioneer head unit and 2 pairs of Polk Audio 6x8s ($150) in my 96 Thunderbird with no external amplifier, and it sounds better than the HK in my BMW. It's sad that $350 bucks and 4 speakers beats the ~$600 I paid for 10 HK speakers and an amplified subwoofer. Sad....but true.

Have you heard a BMW like yours w/o HK? It's even worse.
Also.. it was not meant to go loud, but it does sound clear if you do not crank up all the way to distortion. It's a bit weak on the highs, though.. but it's mostly the fault of a lack of DSP/EQ equipment.

I have an 05 330Xi and mine sounds decent. I'm thinking the HK system changed in 05 since the pictures I have seen of the rear deck (from inside the trunk) of pre 05 cars looks very different than mine. The system is nothing compared to what I had in my previous cars, but its not as bad as people here describe. No cracking or distortion, and it gets pretty loud.

Maybe we got lucky and they upgraded the HK system for 05?

my 99 328i has the standard system with a tape player, and it was sooooooo horrible the worst sound system i have EVER heard, out of all my family's cars, a mustang, g35, integra, buick rendezvous, chevy blazer, dodge conversion van, del sol. THIS CAR HAD THE WORST STOCK SYSTEM! and i thought the G35's was bad, haha my van with a jensen stereo sounded better. last weekend i did the whole system, clarion unit and speakers all around

My 2005 HK system sounds fine as well. Not fabulous, but certainly not a bad stereo. As one other poster said, it's not designed to be cranked, or to have some ridiculous booming bass that can be heard when driving down the street.

There was an auction on ebay a couple of days ago for an HK system, maybe the seller has the specs...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...959304280&rd=1

The entire set consists of:

2 1.5" tweeters
4 2" tweeters
1 2" center channel
2 6" mid range
2 6" subwoofers
2 6x9" speakers with attached amplifier
In dash CD player/radio head unit with mounting hardware
Amplifier with mounting hardware

Oh yeah, and my HK is GREAT! as long as i dont turn up the volume.....

wasted already ...ha...i had 03 330iM and just wanna make it better.
still wanna know da specification of Harman Kardon Sound System ??

i know H/K sounds fine and its not as bad as people here describe unless
u never hear anything modificationed system else first.

My bro just got da his all Alpine type-x speakers with MRV-F545
4/3/2 Channel Power Amplifier and head unit CDA-9835 on his G35.

it sounds so nice.....i feel my 330i h/k sux now.

just wondering if i get a head unit or amp changed.
will it make better sound quality?

anyone has experience of that?

MY 1996 328 HK system sounds pretty good. The weakest link is the headunit, but even that aint too shabby.
