Sub Placement / Deeper sounds

where do u guys have your subs facing?

and would u guys recommend taking out the 2 5" rear speakers and cutting a hole through that so the sub sounds can come inside the car.
what do you guys think?

I'm in the process of installing a pair if Tang Band 6.5" subwoofers (yes, they are subs!) in the package shelf. I had to cut some of the sheet metal around the 5" holes (used by the HK subs) to fit them. The sheet metal isn't flat (thanks BMW) so I've spent a lot of time with a dremel shaping a pair if mdf mounting boards. They ain't pretty but I think they'll work fine. I installed them using some rubber to fully seal the bottom of the mounting boards with the shelf. I'm in the process of installing the amp (and a pair of Infinity xovers) on an mdf board in the trunk under the shelf. The amp is a 250 watt Alpine sub amp with a wired remote. I'll keep you updated.

I have a 12" Alpine S in the vert. Had to cut the back of the box off and take an inch of depth out. It now lays on its back so it can slide back under the convertible storage area, so sub facing straight up. Sounds great

That's not too bad of an idea. It really depends on your sub and setup. I have a single 12" old school MTX facing towards the rear of my coupe and it sounds just fine with the box I have. The only thing I would be worried about is road noise from the trunk for any passengers who you may have in the back seat. Unless you're cranking it up, then I guess it wouldn't really matter.

Of course I put the back back onto the box, so its 100% airtight again. Bolted the Amp against the back wall of the trunk, wires all hidden. Worst part was tapping the LOC into the stock wires pre-amp.
