Lime Rock Track Day- 3/29/05

This past Tuesday, I had the opportunity to go driving at Lime Rock in Connecticut. Great Day and tons of Fun. It had rained hard the night before, and continued into the end of our 1st run session. Then the track continually dried until the line was dry enough where you could really start to tear it up. It worked out well though, in that the first couple of sessions I was able to really work on being super smooth and not upsetting the dynamics of the car too much. For example, in this photo from the first session, you can see that I'm hitting the apex a little wide. The concrete bands, which normally are very nice to drive on were extra slick in the morning, so I ended up running wide on the Apex through Big Bend so I could get the grip on the grittier blacktop. I was able to keep my speed up nicely by doing this:

This photo, I am exiting onto the tiny straight between Big Bend, and The Esses:

Here you can see the track had dried out a bit, and I was able to run with the loaded wheels directly on the concrete. This is the first apex entering into the esses on the second or third session. The first turn into the esses is the only left hander at Lime Rock:

Here I am turning in at the esses:

Yes, that's a mini on my ass. :

Nice and dry, if not cold, track surface:

Closeup of my ride. Pardon me here, but God I love her.

Here's the Martini Porsche. I loved this car! She spun it on the uphill after no-name straight, I think. Here she is catching her breath on the restart after the flag:

Here are a few pics of my car along with Tim330i's car in the paddock:

Yes, I was able to give my new brakes a nice trial, verdict is they're incredible :

Then on the ride home, I shot some pics of Tim's car. We drove out together from Boston the day before and these were taken on the ride home:

Overall, it was a motorsports dream. Wonderful day of driving, and I learned quite a bit. I can't wait for the next track day. I'm hooked!

Thanks. I refinished them over the winter. No, I mean I refinished them over the winter. It was a pain in my ass, and I'll never do it again. Took about 40 hours total with the stripping, sanding, buffing. Ugghh. But, now they are nice and blingin'... It was a labor of love, so Thanks.

Membership to your local BMWCCA chapter needed. Pay attention to their calendar, and find a track day. Basically just find a local car club event schedule, and take it from there.

$140 for the admission. Plus hotel, plus food, plus parts, etc... It adds up, but easily worth the effort and price.

What? HRE's are the perfect track wheel. Where are you coming from with that?

I think that "ideal track wheels" is what you had in mind. Of course you can use 19" HRE's on a track...not the optimal wheel for a track but i doubt BimGrowl tracks his car too often.

Great car, great pics. Sedan Power!
