Door Handle Broken Arghhh !!

I left work today walked out to my car grabbed my door handle and pulled, now the handle is broken, when i pull on it it doesn't feellike it's hooked to anything, so i had to go into tyhe car and open the door from the inside. nothing seems to be wrong with the latch or anything in the door frame just the handle i have bow like handles 99 323i, does anyone know how i can fix this ? is it going to be a pain in the ass ? am i going to need new parts ? if anyone can help it would be great. !!

prolly gonna have to have the dealer look at it, my guess would be whatever spring puts the lock back into place is busted or missing.

(or something, since it stays closed....hmmm)

do ya think i can take the door panel apart and fix it ? i think it may be a little tricky being that there is an air bag in there.

Its not really fixable without buying a new handle. The same thing happened to mine a couple months back. Its not a spring thats broken, instead it a plastic hook on the end of the handle. Just go to the dealer and pick one up, its like $30 i think. Have a local shop paint it for you and you could install it yourself. Hope this helps.

have any idea how to install a new door handle ? it would be great of someone had some sort of write up.

I just had the same problem and got it fixed i attempted to do it myself however it is pretty involved being that the airbag is in the door, the door handle will need to be replaced because there is a plastic type clip on the inside of the door handle that connects to the cable. That clip has most likely broken off so they will replace your door handle, now the thing that sucks is the door handles don't come painted so they will most likely have to order the door handle then once they get it they'll have to have it painted then installed the parts that needed to be replaced were:

part # 51-21-8-216-121 Carrier Left $51.82
part # 51-21-8-241-397 Handle Brkt L/Prime $34.50
Labor was $163.50

They didn't charge me for paint because when they originally diagnosed the door they somehow f-up my alarm. Which i then had to take to my alarm guy to fix.

I know this isn't the answer your looking for but i hope it helps. Having the door handle especially the driver side door handle broken is so frustrating and such a pain in the a$$
