Coupe owners with droopy door seals -
This problem finally happened to my 6 year old car.
This has already been posted a few times but not so concisely - If this happens to you, just go to the hardware store and get some Liquid Nails perfectGLUE 1 and glue them back up. PerfectGLUE comes in 3 varieties but #1 is best for this application. It's easy to use, clear so that if you mess up a little it is no big deal, and it doesn't stink or stick your fingers together like super glue. Here's what you need: - Liquid Nails perfectGLUE 1 (about $5 at any hardware store) - paper towels - masking tape 1. Apply the glue right out of the tube onto the back of the droopy trim piece. 2. Carefully spread out the glue with your fingertip 3. Wipe off your finger on paper towel 4. Press the trim into place and hold it for a few seconds 5. Pull the trim off again and let it sit for 5 minutes 6. Press the trim back into place and hold it there with masking tape. 7. Let sit for a few hours (or overnight) 8. Remove the tape and admire your repair. This is so easy, cheap, and quick that I would do the repair myself even if the car was still under warranty. Hope this helps somebody. |

I cut mine off too. I did get one replaced while the car was under the initial warranty. Since that has expired I was advised that the otherside(has now come off) I would have to pay for it to be replaced. Is this true since it was a factory defect?
Any bulletins on this from the tech side? thanks. |

I just used Super Glue and it never came off again. But i wish i knew it was a factory defect, then i would have got it replaced with warranty. But Super glue works really really well.

Happened to both my cars but fixed under warranty. The M3 is a 04 though, shouldn't they have fixed the problem since my 00?

Happened on my coupe. Passenger side was replaced under warranty, driver side was fixed by me with super glue.
Super glue is quick as easy unlike that Liquid nails method. At first I didn't think Super glue would be strong enough so I bought "Goop" and that was a pain. Takes to long to dry and adhere. Superglue takes 30 sec, apply the glue, press and hold in place, count to 30, let go and walk away. |

I've been dealing with this problem for the last year since I purchased the vehicle. In Phoenix, in the summer, the temperature in my car parked outside at work pushes 160 degrees or more. The trim on both sides started to droop at different times. I've used dual-phase epoxy with success - even around those "S" shaped curves where the window meets the door. I'll apply the glue and hold it in place for 10 minutes with both hands as sweat pours down my back into my shorts! Tape, clamps, wedges, etc. just don't provide the positive pressure. I can only do small sections at one time (two hands wide) but I have found, with patience, it's as good as new.
Just my personal observation, for what it's worth. |

I used the 3M Weather Stripping stuff, so far so good. Red box and the glue is yellow...got it from Autozone.

If this was a factory recall, wouldn't the dealer still be responsible for replacing these? Again, I had one done under the original warranty. Since then both have come off. The stealership said they would only replace the side that was done under the original warranty and I would have to pay for the other side. Is this correct? I am thinking if it was a factory defect, they are responsible. Any way to get a copy of the factory defect information??

There's no recall for this problem. Recalls are only issued for safety-related items.
BMW issued a service bulletin to alert dealers that an improved part was available for repairs. If your car is still under the original 50k factory warranty then it will be fixed for free. If you have the CPO warranty or are out of warranty you are on your own. |

Mine just happened yesterday. Called the dealer and they won't be able to replace it till next week. I,m just going to fix it myself with super glue.

Bah, mine happened last nite. I'm gonna call the dealer and see if they have this new part. Otherwise, I might just do it myself since no dealer around me has loaners.
