Software/chip - personal opinion

I've been looking into software for my car and these are the companies that I have found offer something; powerchip, dinan, superchip, racing dynamics, technik, shark injector and active autowerks all offer some sort of software update. I recently emailed powerchip and they sent back a reply that included this which was helpfull in not elimating them from the running for my ecu

I am suppose to receive an email from one of their techs tomorrow to find out what type of actual gains they can give me with my mods, pulley's, headers, exhaust, and intake as compared to the stock numbers. I guess I will go with the company that appears to know what they are talking about and who will have the best gains for my car. The other links are:

I have elimated dinan from my list because I read a post that the stock software was much smoother than the stage 3 software offered and so was not worth the $500 because it caused an unsmooth feel and no specific Hp/torque gains. Many people have this with their dinan kits that they purchased and have found that it works just fine, however I am looking for gains out of my software not just maintaining my warrenty.

I have also elimated the superchips because of the generic look of their website. It appeared that it was not tailored to my car or my needs at all and therefore might not be the best.

I also elimated racing dynamics because the chip costs $1000. That is just rediculus for software. I might as well get a stand alone system for my car and put in the time/effort and tune it to my desire.

I have also eliminated the shark injector because I think I can get a better gain of Hp/torque from flash reprogram instead of a plug in. Plus most software upgrades are like $50-150 extra ontop of the shark. Despite many people liking the shark and what they got out of having one, I personally think the shark might be a joke and I am not willing to spend $350 to find out when I can spend $50 extra to get my ECU reprogramed.

This leaves me with active autowerks, technik and powerchip. I have heard good things about powerchip, but I am buying my headers from technik right now. I would think that they would have good experiance with the tuning of headers and that would go for the rest of the mods. They also said that they can elimate the check engine light that will be caused by my post O2 sensor light after the installation of the headers. According to the a post the AA software is not that awesome for a supercharger. This does not necessarily mean it will apply to my non-boosted car but I am taking it as an insight into their NA tuning. Another thing is that Active autowerks claims a 16hp gain on the 330 but technik only claims 12. I don't know if this could account for countless hours spent on the dyno and a miraculus on time run from AA or maybe the climate differences between Southern Cali and Miami. I really don't know. Let me know if anyone has had good or bad experiences with any of these!!

I'd say all of them are decent software upgrades, minus the Dinan which they once claimed gave no extra performance just improved throttle response and feel. Also, don't rule out the Shark just yet. I love mine and I think its the easiest of all of them. It doesnt requiring removing the computer and having it sent out somewhere. General consensus is that all aftermarket chips and software will all show similar gains. The discrepency between each is negligible too. If one claims +15hp and the other is +18hp would you actually feel it.
I did a lot of the same research too. I chose shark because of price and ease of use. The prospect of being able to de-Shark you car before a service helped convince me too, but after a while I said fock it, I wouldnt de-shark anyway before a service. G'Luck with your research, hope you find something soon.
