all depends on your budget...
if you have around $8000, you can get a supercharger and be done with it... else, you can get CAI, Pulleys, Headers, Exhasut, Shark Software, 3.46 Diff....

I would just leave the engine alone. The only worthwhile gains are from headers, heads, and SC'ers.

Power to weight ratio
headers, cams, exhaust, pullies and a chip with weight reduction (in that order)

ive never looked into headers for the e46 but technik engineering comes to mind, i dont know who makes a cat back exhaust for the e46 neither, shrick cams or s54 cams if they work with m54, i dont know why i put pullies but i guess you can replace that with a chip. then do weight reduction... gut the interior, replace front seats with racing shells, lightweight rims, carbon fiber hood and trunk (please paint it body color if you do get carbon fiber, i think unpainted carbon fiber looks tacky) and lose the sunroof. to sum it all up... power to weight ratio is the key.

vorsteiner has a "vented race hood" in carbon fiber and modbargains (one of our sponsors) has an assortment of carbon fiber hoods.

A CF hood is one of the last things id do if your looking for more performance.

The R1 makes it fun

Exhaust, intake, pulleys are nearly a waste of money. You will get maybe 5hp with all of them combined.
If you want something that will actually make a performance difference, get 3.46 differential (+software for 7000rpm redline), and headers. These mods combined will actually kick some time off your 0-60 and 1/4mile and you will feel it. |

I would personally start with suspension...
15-20 hp won't matter if your car still dives and squats like stock. |

Throw in a couple of performance driving schools. If you can't go fast in a 225hp car, you can't go fast in any car.
