Red face Question for Gary: will 225/45 17 tire fit stock 17" wheel

Gary:

My 2005 330xi originallyhas all four 205/50 17, and the wheels are labeled 7j x 17 on the inside. I intend to puchase a new sets of tires to replace OE tires from TireRack. My question is, whether the 225/45 17 fit the original wheels?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, 225/45R17 will fit fine and is a common upgrade.

is the 17x7 too narrow for the 225 45 17 tire

Is the stock 7j x 17, (I assume it mean 17x7) too narrow for the 225 tire? I have seen normally 225 tire fits the 17x7.5 or 17x8 rims. Is there any draw back to use the 17x7 rim for the 225 tires?

225/45R17 does fit the 7" wheel. As noted above, this is common to do with E46. This is within the recommended rim width range for the tire, so should be no drawback to doing this.

Yes, fits fine. Looks a bit stretched, but works.
