My cars coils went bad back in 03 and were replaced at the dealer. They should have put in Bosch right? Or should I schedule an appointment tomorrow?

My bad, ya'll. It's E39 and E65/66 vehicles being notified first. I just checked.

My car has been in the shop the last month because of this issue. I have spent about 2,000 dollars to try and get it fixed. I think it's finally going to be getting fixed. All to find out that I could have done it for... free?

Anybody know if Bosch coils were used prior to 9/02? Just wondering how they determined the cutoff date.

I'm curious myself. My car was manufactured on 4/02 and I'm worried I might be carrying around the crappy Bremis~

I've got a e46 that was produced in 07/05 and I still had a coil go out @ 3k miles. Interesting that they placed the cutoff at 12/04.

The car just started sputtering during acceleration one day and the check engine light turn on so I pulled over and turned the engine off. When I cranked it back up the light went off and I call my dealership who asked me to bring it in the next day. I did so and they replaced #3. Go figure....

Same happened to me except I was racing my friend (in Steptronic) and after getting off the highway and pulling up to a light my car just idled really aggressively like it was going to shake itself apart. I had a power dip when I accelerated and felt like it wanted to cut off. I called the dealership when I got home and they told me to bring it in the other day. So I pampered my baby in to the dealership the next day and they said #3 coil wend bad or something to that effect. Now my car is going thru reconditioning process and called up the dealership (BMW NA in NYC) to tell them to make sure that my car isn't one of the ones on the list.

Mine happened just like that except when mine went out the fool at the local shop told me it was okay to keep driving it until he got the part in and then all the coils went out and it fried the DME controller. it's STILL in the shop (almost 2 months ago)

Sounds like Irvine BMW here in SoCal.

And yeah, in August I had 2 Bremi coils go out and they replaced all 6 with Bosch.

Well, I brought my car in today and everything's ok. The tech said I had Bosch coils, even though my car is on that list. I'm glad it's ok.

Thanks Ken. I called the dealership and they told me mine is not part of the recall.
The guy said this recall came out only 3 days ago, how do i know it ?
I didn't tell him that I have sources (like KEN).....

But I told him, if I have to reveal my source, they have to kill him...

Hello:

I just had the very same issues everyone is describing here a few weeks ago (rough idle at the light, loss of power, sputtering). I took it in to an independent shop (GMS in Sunnyvale). The readout read "misfire". They replaced one coil with another BREMI coil!!! I wonder if I can get BMW NA to refund this particular service and have them replace all of the current coils...wishful thinking I suppose??

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Haha. Yes, you would have to kidnap him, bring him to me, and then I will dispose of him.

They did mine yesterday along with the new tranny. The SA told me when I dropped the car off early Tuesday. Although I've had issues with the dealer from time to time, they've always been on top of the tsb's.

Just searched and found this thread....
I brought my car in today for service on a few different minor issues...weather stripping falling down a bit on passenger side, condesation in my driver's side brake light (bad seal), finish on euro tray peeling off, etc....
My service guy said that they were going to do the ignition coil recall. How can I ensure that they replace with Bosch and not Bremi? I have had a complete engine shutdown while driving once when my car was about 6 months old. Also I have an idle "dip" usually after coming to a stop at a light when the revs will go from around 1k to somewhere near 600rpm and the car will vibrate a bit and then the revs will catch back up to around 1k. People have commented and I have had no answer. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. Again, how to I confirm the Bosch ignition coil replacement? Thanks for any response.
