So back to the original question, what are you planning on doing with the car?

since you put it that way? The car is getting put together in a shop. they started the suspension work on it.The thing is that i want it to be pure race/track car. just for kicks i wanted to take out the car on the street. BUt still the roll cage/roll bar is a must for me. So for a race /track car what is the recomended roll cage/bar out there. I really have no limit, what is the best.

Are you actually going to be racing it or just DE's/track days? There is a difference. If you are going to be doing actual door to door racing(DE's and track days arent this) you need to check the sanctioning body rules.

However, I doubt you will be. I would suggest either a Kirk, Autopower, or custom rollBAR.

i have a kirk bolt in and the fitment is very good although i will be selling it this winter/spring. Im going to be going with a complete 6pt +2 weld in cage. If i were to do the rollbar again i would just take it somewhere and get a custom one welded in.

Yeah, I'd say more like $2k-3k.

So maybe the car(s) with rollcages that you have had or had been in have the ghetto cages that come down inches from the headliner.

When I sit in the car, my head is a good 4-5 inches from the front bar even if I lean under it, so I don't understand how I could hit my head on it.
You know, I'm not quite sure how to respond. You seem to think you know all the answers, yet you're clueless. You'd be surprised how much the body can move around and stretch in a crash. You should study sled tests and in-car video from crashes. Even with 5 point harnesses, properly installed and cinched down, drivers have been known to damned near come out of their seats. Some drivers have had injuries by contacting the side bolsters flopping back into the seat.

I think when he said "$1500-$2000 to weld in a full cage, are you JOKING?" he was talking about welding in a prefabbed cage/bar, whereas I beleive your talking about a fully custom made from scratch cage, right?

So no door to door racing? A roll bar should be just fine. Kirk, Autopower, or custom...

Get the Autopower rollcage, then take it to T&T on Reseda, THEY CHARGED MY FRIEND $300 CASH TO FULLY WELD IN HIS 10 PT AUTOPOWER ROLLCAGE, NOT $2-3K.

I have seen some customized setup that goes up to, supposedly $6000. Is this possible at all?

Yea, and a properly built Mod class cage will run you in that ballpark

I have seen the Autopower setup. In fact, I posted pics somewhere on this forum.

The Autopower off-the-shelves kit is good up to a certain standard. It's far from being the perfect setup out there in the market if you want to get into road racing. What's the only way to test the ridigity of the cage? Flip your car at the track and see how well the cage holds up.

A $2k or $3k (up to $6k I heard) setup get you Bimmerworld, Turner, TC Kiline race-proven quality kind of roll cage. I have seen them on race-prep BMWs at the track before. We are not talking about pre-welding a cage, put it into cabin and weld/bolt the fixed points. From what I heard from racers, we are talking about welding joint by joint in the cabin and adjusting lengths of tubes as needed. Keeping that in mind, which do you think takes more time to complete?
