Difference between old JL Audio 12W6 and new JL Audio 12W3V2 subs

I was talking to my local sound shop and he was saying that JL Audio does not make the 12W6 style subwoofer anymore. They replaced that style with a
12W3V2 (concave middle). And have upgraded the W6's to W6V2 which is the newer style similar to the W7's.

Since I don't want to spend the increased price on the newer W6V2/W7 style (and increased power requirements), I was wondering if anyone knows the
sound/performance difference between the old 12W6 sub and the new 12W3V2? Thanks.

old w6 hit a little harder but require more power...

hmm, sounds innaccurate. the "old" W6 in 10 & 12" versions is still available in the latest price release, along w/ the new W6V2. the W3 is the W4 replacement, not a replacement for the W6. However, the new W3 is rated at 300RMS, same as the "old" W6 but w/ a better designed motor structure. For my && a W3V2 would def. get the nod over the "old" W6. I've had them both.

Great info on the two subs, thanks. I also thought that the guy's story sounded a little funny since JL Audio still lists the W6 on their website. But the sound shop was Audio Advisors (who specialize in the JL line...............oh well). The important thing is that the W3V2 is the most recent design, and apparently, in your opinion, the better sub.

That is what I am trying to figure out so your post helps out a lot. Thanks again.
