there were a few on ebay a while back but the last time i looked was when i had just gotten my liscence (2yrs ago) and was looking for an X5 3.0 5 spd, theyre pretty rare. Ive never seen a 4.4 on there but then again the saleswoman could have just been b.sing my dad. There are alot of 5spd X5 3.0d's my neighbor in germany had one, and a friend of mine's father had one.

How are you going to fit a SMG on to a Xdrive car??? Aren't they special transmissions? I know my X has a ZF, but it is also all wheel drive. Maybe the tranny connects to the X differential or something. But the X comes with manual trannys too. Don't know.

If someone can do it, George can.

George brings up good questions. I guess there would be pros and cons to having an M3 engine in an X5...I'm not sure if that would be better or worse. It would be better for a 3.0, but I'm not sure about the 4.4.

MITE I'm telling you....swap the engines. do it. 4.4L V8 M3 Cab....and you've got bluetooth so you can't lose

this is how it all starts.

i just was looking over those pictures of that V12 X5. They changed a lot of the interior. They moved the window controls from the door to the center console, and what kind of steering wheel is that?? Something I could buy? Does anybody know?

It's a one-off concept car by BMW. So no you can't really buy parts you see in the pics.

I dont understand why a m3 motor wouldnt work in an x5. Maybe you could make the car RWD and it would be easier and the car would be lighter too. The 3.0 gives decent performance in an X5 I dont see why the M3 3.2 wouldnt. If its not enough power you can always supercharge it right??

I dunno if I would call a x5 3.0 decent...I think its heavily underpowered for that truck...im more concerned on the electronics side now...since the X5 has a lot of similarites with the 5er platform...im trying to figure out exactly this would work out...what am I saying im gonna go take a look at the 4.4i right now...=p

Don't think the tranny will bolt right on, and this could be a big problem. Not to mention engine mounts, exhaust system (custom everything) and electronics. Sounds like a big costly project and probably wont worth it.

2003 X5 4.4i...coming up on the end of its lease...one month left

Here's the v8...

I've actually never really looked under the hood carefully...that brake booster is huge...

Anyway...right side of the engine...Coolant...Fluids on the right...completely different than the 3er...

Air box on the left...

The biggest concern will be the 4x4...the ETK says the step and manual trannies for the X5 connect directly to the diverter thingy...

So it looks like either you would have to modify the SMGII tranny which is near impossible because its longer...or you would just have to go with only rear wheel drive which is just retarded on an X5...=( End of story I guess...

For more hardcore, why not the M5/M6 V10 engine
