before I say which one I like, just wanted to say that I'm a design major.

I like design 2, but the car in the banner is going the wrong way. if you could tak the car from design 1 and put it into the banner in design 2 then you're all set

There both alot better looking then what you have now...but my choice would have to be 1 due to the fact that it looks more professional looking...
When I went to school for web designing I was taught that all it takes is 6 seconds for the user to determine if he is going to stay on the site or not....in those 6 seconds the site most load fast, have nice eye candy, and be user friendly....just something to think about when chosing your layout.

Both designs look good. Having done more than my fair share of web development I'd say go with whichever one can be implemented in CSS to render correctly with all the common browsers. If you can stay away from layout tables it gets so much easier to make design changes in the future.

If you want a personal preference I'd say go with design 1 but try to work in a little more colour to help with the usability.

#2 grabs my attention better. The colours liven up the web site as well and the fonts appear to be larger as well.

#2 looks much better. Althought #1 has alot of fancy graphics and whatnot, it looks too "cs-gamer" like, played out and unprofessional. I think business storefronts should always carry out a sense of professionalism to look more honest. I just think white is a better colour than black too, since black is more "we've got things to hide".
