detailing service cost

Anyone know of a good detailer in Norther New Jersey? I know about 3 places and wonder what's a good price for exterior detailing? So far I think the range is $120-150.

Base the value of the price on exactly what their process is. Determine what you want from the detail and then fuind out who delivers that. An exterior detail can mean a lot of different things to different people. For some its a wash and wax while others want wash, clay bar, abrasive polish, chemical polish, glaze, sealant, wax. Sorry I don't know any detailers in Norther NJ, we are located in Albany, NY if you want to make the drive.

General Note: Detailing is one of the industries that generally you get what you pay for. If the price seems to good to be true than it probably is. A good job is going to take more time which means more money. A high price doesn't mean that they do good work but there is generally a correlation.

thanks for the tip! actually they would usually ask me what i want but i'm not even sure what i want! i wanna know what i should tell them... i just got my car in April 2005 so the body is very new, except i've taken it to a carwash before and probably rubbed off all the wax already, and i've clayed and polished it myself twice so far.

i would like to get the full process done on my car, so should they clay again or whatever is best to "smooth" out the car and then polish + sealant + wax. do i get to tell them what kind of product i prefer?

Glad to hear the post was helpful and that you gained something from it. Since the car is new it shouldn't need an abrasive polish or glaze at this point. I like to clay the paint atleast twice a year. If its been six months or more I would have it done again. If not you might want to wait till Spring when most of the snow and salt are done with. The clay will help smooth out the paint and remove surface contamination. Additionally a coat of chemical polish will increase the shine and a sealant will give it the protection it needs. A coat of wax on top of it will add more depth and gloss. A sealant is the most necessary step, with the clay being next and the polish and wax being more for aesthetics, in my opinion at this time for your car.

As for "do i get to tell them what kind of product i prefer?" probably not. Most places use generic products that aren't really of the highest quality. At Detailed Image we use all the same brands that we sell so we can remain knowledgable of the products and their application as well give the customer the best all around products. They can pick whatever product they want applied to their car but traditionally we make the selection for them by figuring out what product best suites their needs. Some places may not carry different detailing products like I listed before (clay, glaze, polishes, etc.). Again I would encourage you to find out if they offer such services and then find out what products they use. I know some people on the site have bought products from my website and had detailer apply it so they can get a quality service with qaulity products. If you have any questions about their products or process feel free to post here or contact us at www.detailedimage.com. Thanks for posting!
