If you are doing a nav install you can tap your reverse light wire on the taillight.

that would be more work pulling the wire from the front to the back though.. and since i was already pulling 1 to the gauge cluster for the speed sensor, it'd be easier for me to pull just one more. I see no blue/yellow wires behind the gauge cluster. I see a blue/greenish yellow wire... anyone know if that's the one???

ok... since i'm not sure of the wire behind the cluster, i'm not wiring it there. i'm now trying to do it through the glove compartment... i'm trying to follow directions that i found on here but i can't get access to this box in this picture... when i pull the fuse tray all the way down, that black box is pointed away from me... is there some clips that i press to release it???

For future reference, you can get both the reverse and VSS from that j-box over the glove box.

Once you pull the fuse box down, you can the the box. It just pulls out, has a couple snaps holding it.

bringin it back from the dead i know, im sorry...but what color wire in the "j-box" is the speed sensor...im not putting in a reverse camera so i dont care about the reverse wire....

and i know everyone well most on here do not hook the wire for the parking brake up to the actual parking brake....on previous installs i have done in the past it was just a ground wire...this one says "hook up to the positive feed on the parking brake" so to be able to watch movies in drive should i hook it up to a positive?? the whole thing about positive feed kind of confused me

VSS is black/white. Don't get it confused with the tach wire (black).
The reverse wire, besides switching to rear camera is used by navigation units to know that the car isgoing backwards, so it is able to place the car in the map accurately. I would hook it up, you already have to run a wire there, might as well do two wires.

What radio do you have? If it is an alpine, you are supposed to hook up both the parking brake and real brake and go through a sequence to be able to view video/setup navigation information. If you get a PAC-TR7, it can be used to automatically bypass the safety, just don't do anything dumb if you bypass it while driving.

So, the reverse wire is the blue/yellow one? Could anyone verify this, please?

Look at the first picture. Same colors as the cluster location.

i have the Pioneer AVIC D1....dont worry the only reason i want it hooked up while im driving is so others can watch movies, or play ps2 while im driving.... so if i hook up the reverse wire and the speed sensor though the j-box all i have to do is hook up the parking brake wire to a positive and that all will work?

The steering wheel buttons will still light up if you remove the oem radio and use the pac.

google "avic-d1 bypass" If I remember correctly, you have to add a wire to the harness and ground it.

THANK YOU!!

i dont want to use the pac, so im going to experiment tapping some of the steering wheel controll wires into th "illumination" wire on my harness to see if i can get the lights on the wheel to still light up.

i was a professional installer for an auto customs shop around here for quite some time...i feel like an amature asking all these questions....

One more time, the illumination of the steering wheel controls would still work if you replace the radio.

There are 4 wires going on the right side buttons (cruise control), ignition, ground, i-bus (audio/phone) and k-bus (cruise control). There are 4 wires going from the cruise control buttons to the left side (ignition, ground, vol/track-up/down and r/t+mute) The buttons on the left put out different resistance values. All the logic is on the cruise control buttons.

Both left/right buttons lights up from the ignition source (no illumination wire inside the steering wheel).

Hope that clears things up.
