I got this from emi323i a while back, didn't work for me becuase my car was built before 06/2000, but it might work for you.

Subject: if your car is build b4 06/2000 you need a tool

otherwise, hold the trip reset button down, turn the key to "on"... hold it
down for about 15 seconds, and the display will change to something like
"reset" something... release the button... and click it again... something
like that...

Wait these instructions are better than the last ones I sent you.

-switch off ignition

-press the daily miles button and keep it pressed for the next two steps below

-switch on ignition (dont start)

-wait for display to show "reset"

-let go the daily miles button and press it once again

I have a 00" 328... i tired this out but the words "reset" did NOT pop up... however, the words " test" did. It would flash back from "test to my current mileage every couple seconds. If I clicked it once again when "test" was displayed... a sequence of numbers would pop up? The sequence would change ever time I press the reset button. Any ideas? I've been searching but no luck. I just changed my oil too... and dont want to go to the dealership to reset my stuff if I dont have too.

OKay well for some reason my oil service indicator ahs been stuck at -4950 for the past 2 months.... even tho i know im not over on my oil change. I did the pin reset in that pdf attachment and it reset my inspection to 15XXX. but not the oil service doesnt pop up anymore when i first start the car or turn it to position 1 or 2... just the inspection pops up. is this normal? i never really noticed it before because BMW always serviced my car. They wanted to charge me $66 to reset it... i just said F it.

Having gone through this "Pin 7" procedure I seem to have created a display problem. Prior to attempting this re-set I was also fiddling with the mileage knob and I think I must have changed the display sequence as now "Inspection" and "25,000" shows instead of details for the oil service.
Can anyone help with the sequence to get the dispaly back to oil service.

SBREM2 and Shannon C,

Nothing to worry about it. The sequence is correct. After the oil service, the inspection routine would come next.

Oil Service->Inspection (I)->Oil Service->Inspection (II)

Please take note that Inspection I & II includes Oil service as well. Try searching this forum to find out what's being done during Oil Service, Inspection I, and Inspection II.

Regards

Instrument Cluster tests...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To
access a whole slew of data and the instrument cluster test on an e46:
1. with the ignition off, hold the left instrument button
2. turn the key to position 1 (radio)
3. If you let go of the button and press again you will cycle through the following 20 tests.
4. If you want to acess the submenus, release the button while a test menu number is being diplayed, within a second, you will see Test number.0. You can then click again to cylce through the submenus. To get back to the main menu, press and hold the left key until you see the test number without the ".0".
5. Note, you can only access tests 1 and 2 without unlocking-- to unlock the other tests, go to test 19 and wait for the display ot say "l-off", then click again. Now you can cycle through to the other tests
