Lexus can pull 305 HP out of a NA 3.5L but BMW can only manage the same HP and 15lb/ft more from a bi-turbo 3.5L?

Because all AWD cars compensate for driver inadequacy. If a driver is good enough, and all other things being equal, a rwd car should be able to track better than awd.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that their cars are POS's or anything, and I think it was a smart move for BMW to offer all-wheel drive for those consumers that need it/want it.
But IMO the true BMW experience starts with rear-wheel drive.

its gonna be first series of turbo engines, i guess they dont wanna push it too much, reliability issue

and it cant be same/faster than the M, cause then they will pwn them selves

not true, there are many instances where power delivered to four wheels offers superior traction which may result in better track times.

The N54 is a 3.0L, not 3.5L.

I thought the turbo engine will only be available in Europe and Asia. In the US, the 335i will be NA and not turbo. That's what I read in other forums. Any truth to this?

A HIGHLY unlikely rumor, BMW would not devote the reasons to redesign from ground-up a "big 6" just for this market; the current motor geometry is the same as its been since the 80s, and it cant go much beyond 3.3L.

the "335" designation comes from the old "745" turbo; it was a 3.5L Turbo-6, BMW named it the 745 because the power was considered equivalent to 4.5L of NA power.

it's sad - for years the BMW naturally aspirated engines have been outperforming Mercedes' cars which often are supercharged (kompressor models, all of the current //AMG models). Mercedes has just announced that it will be making normally aspirated 6.3L engines for the new ML63, S63, CL63, CLS63, and SLK63 over the next two years. And Now BMW is going supercharged.

what's wrong with this picture?
