42" Plasma or 50" LCD projection

Would you rather get a 42" Plasma or a 50" LCD? I had a 50" LCD projection, and it recently died on me. It took up a lot of room. It sits on a small wall next to large speakers. However, the room itself is quite large and I'm wondering if a 42" will be big enough. Here is a pic of the TV setup before it died.

Nice set up but I'd go plasma. Az for the size, let the room determine that, if the proportions are right, it will seem more comfortable. I like plasma. I actually don't own one, my parents do. My local hangout has 50" lcd and I like the plasma better. That's just me though. Either way that is obviously a sick tv/setup you have, sorry to hear it died.

Good idea, but that will put me over $3K. I'm trying to be somewhat practical and keep it under $2500. I'm seriously considering the Samsung HP-R4272 plasma, which I can get for about $2400 shipped.

I can get into another Sony LCD projection 50" for about $2K, but I'm thinking the plasma is worth the extra $400.

I'm thinking the 42" will be big enough.

I guess "somewhat practical" is a relative term.

I actually have my 36" Proscan CRT in its place right now, and it's not cutting it. It is a little small, plus no HD. I'm paying for the service, might as well get another HDTV.

I think I've convinced myself to get the plasma. I've always wanted one.

Thanks, but I just ordered the Sammy. Mainly b/c all my A/V equiment is black, plus the price was right. I was sitting in Best Buy trying to tell a difference in PQ, and the Samsung looked as good as the Pioneer above it. Hope I like it.

Well, it didnt really die, but there are blue lines and blotches all over the picture. I had a guy come out and say it would be "very expensive" to fix. He said something cracked inside? Anyways, I'm gonna take it somewhere else and if they can fix it I'll make it my game room TV.

yeah i'll hook fellow fanatics up as soon as they become available again.. i called Panasonic employee store and they said they are out of the models i listed and will be available around 8weeks.. we can pre buy and wait till they become available but i prefer to wait until they are available to avoid any issues.. i might just pre pay for mine ;-)..

the only one available is the 37" version 60U
