playstation can destroy a rear projection tv?

i sthis true? i have a 54" samsung that i think is rear projection. ive heard mixed reviews about the ps2 damaging it.

1) Notice he said "rear projection", and nothing about dlp or lcd rp.
2) You CAN burn in images into a lcd or dlp rear projection set. The processing chips themselves do not change the fact that the screen can burn in on those sets.

Uhhhhh. The way they work it is not physically possible for them to burn the screen. They are merely a reflection of light off a mirror or processor.



There is no direct contact with the screen.

I was thinkin the same damn thing. Seems like whenever we talk about certain kinds of tv's, all of em end up in the mix.

How about crt tubes? Can burn in occur?

Probably because when a person asks such a vague question you have to throw everything into the mix while you guess which question is actually being asked

I have never heard of a direct view television burning in. It is "theoretically" possible, but in practice it is close to impossible.

All of you guys have families that have owned multiple direct view crts over the years along with your relatives and friends. When have you ever heard of one burning in or when have you heard a salesman try to dissuade your choice in a direct view tv because of possible burn in? Projection and plasma tvs on the other hand...

I've seen literally hundreds of burned in CRT computer monitors, which are the same as TV CRTs

A CRT-based rear projection TV is no different than a direct view CRT display. Other than each CRT displays only one color in a projection set. But I don't see that is any different than a direct view CRT.

No one that I know personally has a burned-in set of any kind, so the logical conclusion from that is that no kind of TV is susceptible to burn in.

Although if I was going to have CNN or ESPN or whatever on all day every day or if I had kids that would be playing video games for hours on end I would get a DLP set just to be safe. Since they are the only ones that are 100% certain to not have image persistance problems.

All the TVs when I worked at CNN had the logo burned into the CRTs. Burn-in at home? Unlikely, unless you fall asleep with the tv with an image and no motion. But you are both right, It can definately happen on CRTs, but unlikely if you're careful. New generation TVs whether RP LCD, RP DLP, LCD, Plasma, etc have built in 'screen savers' that will kick in after a certain timeframe depending on how you configure it.

But you are changing your story - first you plainly said a direct view CRT can not burn in. When in fact it most certainly can.

But I wouldn't worry about it.

LCD rear projection can burn in, because the LCD panels themselves used in the projection process can burn. Unlikely though.

About 15 years ago my uncle's CRT had permanent images from Mario Brother's burned into the screen.
