Another Double Din Install
Its an Eclipse AVN-5435 and guess who made my radio trim? Yes, it was SrCsTc. Too bad my camera sucks.
![]() I sealed the HVAC duct by bending a sheet of ABS using a heat gun to a right angle. I used some JB Weld to bond the ABS to the duct. Then sealed the ducts with duct tape. Its really not that hard. ![]() The hardest part was routing the wires.

Damn that rat's nest of wires looks scary.
You make it sound so easy, but I'd probably set my car on fire somehow.

Nice install. I am hoping to get the guts to do this when the Avic-z1 comes out.
I am curious, did you disconnect that vent arm thing? I saw a double din install post a while ago where the shop was able to keep the vent arm by modifiying it. They didn't give any details, but if I ever tried this install I'd want to keep the vents working as they did originally. Since you've done this install do you have any pointers or insight into keeping the vents working? |

Yes, I just cut the arm out. Its kind of tight in there so it would take some patience. You'd have to build the arm in a U shape so that it can clear the radio. I really didn't look at the back of the louver so I really can't give you reall good advice about attaching a new arm.
Maybe try a small diameter rod further towards the back and just bolt it into each door? I tried out my HVAC system and its really not a big deal having the louvers stuck open. Personally, if I were ever to sell the car, no one would notice...but I'm never selling the car.

This vent arm do-hickey that people have been talking about, is it for the opening/closing of the middle vents or is it for opening the lower floor vents?
