Magazine Suggestion

Hi.. My dad has always been into high-end home audio stuff, and recently he's been buying tons of vintage home stereo and Mcintosh stuff, and his only reference are his old magazines from back in the days. Just wondering if any fanatic can suggest a good magazine for him to subscribe? Hope it has some reviews, pricing guide to vintage stuff and recommendations and such. thank you.

Um, yeah, looks like there would be tons of stuff about vintage gear in that magazine. NOT.

Alright asshole. He asked for a good home theater magazine. Thats one. You want info on vintage gear good f'n luck. You want info on new developments, industry standards, reviews, etc. You buy this one.

If you have nothing supportive to say, dont post it. You waste everyones time.

Hey man, I have no beef with you. That said, YOU are the time waster posting a reply to a question that was not asked! You clearly didn't read the original post...

The original post clearly stated vintage high end audio gear, HOME THEATER was not even mentioned. Honestly, some people.

Don't you feel like an e-tard now?

BTW, I expect you to apologize to me

How about you describe two articles from that magazine that dealt with vintage 2-channel equipment. I searched their web site high and low and couldn't find a single reference to anything remotely like that. In fact I couldn't find any evidence that they even know that 2-channel gear ever existed. Home Theater may be a good magazine for new multi-channel stuff but I think of the mainstream mags Stereophile might be a better choice, and even they don't get into vintage stuff.

This might involve a bit of a search for you . . but the absolute best magazine that I can think of are copies of "Listener" magazine. I think they printed these from about 1998 to 2002. Pocket journal-sized, like readers digest. I can guarantee that your dad will like this stuff. It covered both vintage gear plus cutting edge adaptions of vintage technology. Like cutting edge tube audio designs . . cutting edge horn speakers, etc. We're talking about paper drivers with whizzer cones that go for $900 a pop without the speaker . . and 5 watt $5k amplifiers that catch of fire when you try to change speakers without powering down first. Written with a good sense of humor and a reverence for good, emotionally satisfying sound. I have about 8 issues in my audio book collection and I'll never get rid of them.

Here's a link showing what was in each issue: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/listener/

Wow, I just started re-reading some of Art Dudley's editorials - good stuff: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/listene.../editorial.htm

Good luck!
