2001 330Ci with 74k and change:

-Both window regulators and trim pieces
-clutch
-thermostat
-about to do belts (so I figured I might as well do pulley's too )
-My front control arms/bushings are gonna need to get changed pretty soon
-Air conditioning compressor
-LCM

I think that's it. Nothing too bad, other than the clutch blowing to pieces and leaving me on the side of the road...

127,000miles, 330ci sport 2002 model.

Just replaced all the suspension with Eiback (spelling) coil over stuff and found one of the shocks was leaking, front bushes, thermostate and a Eisalman stainless pipe (nothing wrong with old one!), prop donut, all wheels for 19" csl reps with propa offsets to give the dish effect. Thats about it really as I do nearly all my own maintenance. Need a new P/S rack now though as tiny amount of play is really annoying but gona do that myself soon. Oh and new disks and race pads when I got it at 90K last year.

Id buy another tomorrow as brill car..... or a 996 carrera 4s!

86,440k - 2000 323i Sport Wagon

Not sure what was up w/ this car 2 weeks ago - dealer may have repaired some things, as I've just purchased it, but this is what I have have on the agenda:

Something is up w/ the A/C - doesnt blow cold, yet to have it looked at.
Rear window button below rear wiper (used to open rear glass) is busted, part ordered.

Runs and drives amazing. Imagine going from a rusty (think salt-happy Vermont Highway crews) 1990 Honda Accord to a 2000 BMW 323i...Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Maybe that'll change when I get a quote to fix the A/C..hmmmm....

Just turned 140K, mostly freeway (my last job was 72 miles each way and this one is 98 each way but I only do it twice/three times per week)
Moonroof/window regs/door trim (twice) under warrantee
New pads/rotors at around 105K
New water pump/thermo at around 125K
One new O2 sensor at 130K (intermittant check engine light)
Original B-stones lasted 45K, SO-3s lasted 50K, current PS2s are going strong at 45K (will replace this summer/fall).
Currently have shot LCA bearings and a leaking rear shock. Am replacing next week with ZHP springs/shocks and OEM bearings.
Car is built like a tank - standard stuff (except electrical stuff early on).
It might be the best commuter car ever - I can get 450 miles on a tank consistently (29-31 mpg). I plan to track the car for the first time in a few months.

mocoso, when you got your timing chaing serviced, was it replaced? why $1200 if there is no problems with the chain? why changed it if there is nothing wrong with it? also, when you got your fuel filter changed and other stuff, which were preventative maitainence and which were because something was wrong with it? Also, are you planning on getting another car in a year or so? if so, which one? and one more question, I really got to see the mileage on that car, 221K!!! can you get a quick pic of the mileage on your car? Thanks!

Not 221K any more....Ride has 224K now!!

In response to the request for a pic of my odometer. I could post it now if he wasn't at the shop at the moment. There will be a pic by tomorrow hopefully. If you want to see him live, look for him at Menlo Atherton Shell Service in Menlo Park, CA. That's where he's being taken care of at the moment.

Remember the new thermostat last month? Well something is up with that or the fan the mechanic believes. For the last two weeks, my 328i has overheated on the Bay Bridge during stop and go traffic.

Yesterday was the most recent "exciting episode" of this saga. At the time I cranked up the heater to max and the temperature settled down again. I drove on home and let the little guy rest. Today he's at the shop.

Mechanic believes his fan is acting up. They will review it today. He's also getting new rims since I've got two bent OEM ones.

RE: the timing chain

Good point - I debate that constantly. Why replace the timing chain if it's not acting up? Although BMW recommends a timing chain replacement at 70K, this little guy now has over 3 times that mileage. I've read that if the chain begins to act up, you will experience a change in the car's performance. So far there has been no noticeable drop in that regard.

The other factor of course is fear or major problems. A good friend had his timing chain go out on his A4 and had major engine problems to deal with and a bill in the 4 or 5K range. I can't pull that kind of money out of my piggy bank quick enough.

As far as the fuel pump and fuel filter - That was another close call. The car's engine light came on and no more than 2 seconds later it shut down. I luckily was able to coast into a driveway and have it towed. Fuel filter and fuel pump were replaced and voom, I was ok again.

If anybody else wants to chime in on the timing chain issue, let's hear it. I'm really curious what others think about that issue.

225K - 2000 328i

Here's the pic folks. He rolled over to 225K yesterday. Poor little guy. He'll probably become my weekend fun car in the next couple of months. I can't imagine him going on to 300K....or could he?

Sorry about pic quality, it was taken with my Treo.
